Primary Purpose:
The Commuter Life Assistant plays a vital role in creating a welcoming, supportive, and engaging environment for Bethel University’s commuter and PSEO student populations. This role blends operational duties within the Underground, event planning, communication outreach, and meaningful relational engagement with students. Team Members collaborate closely with the with the Student Life team and fellow team members to create a strong sense of belonging for off-campus students.
General Responsibilities:
Event Planning & Execution (1–2 hrs/week)
Assist in planning, promoting, and executing events like Commuter Café, Coffee Drive-Thru, PSEO specific events and other gatherings
Support event logistics including set-up, tear-down, and creative input
Contribute to the development and implementation of passive programming
Relational Engagement & Outreach (1–2 hrs/week)
Intentionally connect with 3–5 commuter or PSEO students weekly (e.g., coffee chats, meals, informal check-ins)
Document outreach to track engagement and relational impact
Use designated funds to support and enhance these connections
Underground Space Maintenance & Operations (1–2 hrs/week)
Each team member will be assigned at least one area of responsibility:
Coffee Supplies & Inventory
Monitor and restock coffee and related supplies
Place inventory requests through the Executive Leader
Concessions Management
Manage snack and beverage inventory
Prepare concessions for regular and special events
Games & Recreation Oversight
Ensure all recreational areas and equipment (e.g., arcade, pool, shuffleboard) are clean and functional.
Coordinate timely repairs or replacements.
General Space Maintenance (Opening/Closing Duties)
Morning open-up: lights, music, cleanliness
Oversee closing routines and general space tidiness
Communication & Marketing (0.5–1 hr/week)
Assist in weekly communications through texts, emails, and Instagram
Create clear and engaging promotional content for events and initiatives
Maintain communication channels and event announcements
Qualifications:
Must be a current Bethel student with a minimum GPA of 2.5.
Work approximately 5-7 hours per week.
Previous involvement with Commuter Life, the Underground, or Student Leadership preferred, but not required.
Strong communication and relational skills.
Organized, reliable, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
Passion for fostering inclusive and vibrant community experiences.
