The City of Pasadena Public Health Department is seeking a skilled and passionate Community Services Representative I to serve as a Front Desk Receptionist in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program. This position plays an important role in supporting families, ensuring smooth daily operations, and contributing to the delivery of high-quality WIC services.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent customer service skills and a genuine desire to support WIC families, communicate clearly and professionally in English, and show compassion, patience, and strong problem-solving abilities. They will thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment, be able to multitask effectively in a fast-paced setting, and possess experience with video conferencing platforms, digital tools, and standard computer equipment. This candidate will be comfortable working with diverse populations, consistently deliver customer focused service, and-ideally-be bilingual in English and Spanish.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
For over 125 years, the Pasadena Public Health Department has been responsible for helping protect, maintain, and improve the health of the Pasadena community. The City of Pasadena is one of only three cities in the State of California that maintains its own independent local health jurisdiction with responsibility for a wide variety of services that support the three core functions of assessment, policy development, and assurance. This is a limited-term grant funded position with current funding through September 30, 2026, with the possibility of continued funding to local WIC agency through the current three-year contract for FFY 2026-2028, commencing on October 1, 2025, and ending September 30, 2028. VACANCY INFORMATION
There is currently one part-time, limited term vacancy in the Health Promotion and Policy Development Division of the Public Health Department. Hours will be 60 hours per pay period pending grant funding. The resulting eligible list from this recruitment may be used to fill this vacancy and similar vacancies in the future.
Candidates selected for this position are subject to a one-year probationary work period.
Special Requirements
Must possess a valid California Class C drivers license and comply with the Citys Motor Vehicle Safety Policy during employment.
Retirement:
The City of Pasadena contracts with the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) to offer a defined benefits program for eligible employees.
"New" CalPERS members are subject to the provisions of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) and receive the following benefit formula: 2% at 62
"Classic" members of CalPERS receive the following benefit formula: 2.5% at 55
Deferred Compensation:
The City offers a 457(b) deferred compensation plan to help employees save for their retirement and supplement their CalPERS pension. Employees can defer salary with pre-tax or Roth after-tax deductions.
