Assisted Living & Memory Care Communities – Greater Los Angeles Area
Position Overview
We are seeking a creative, organized Community Seasonal Decor & Styling Contractor to design and maintain warm, welcoming, and beautifully styled environments across our assisted living and memory care communities.
This is a project-based independent contractor role for someone with a strong eye for tasteful, residential design who can create an elevated, home-like atmosphere using quality décor (HomeGoods, Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel style).
We operate seven communities in Southern California and are open to:
One contractor covering all locations, or
Multiple contractors assigned by geography
Potential groupings include:
Valley Village & Glendale
Long Beach & Ojai
Monrovia & Glendora
Final assignments will depend on experience, availability, and travel flexibility.
Scope of Work
The contractor will visit assigned communities on a monthly basis to install, refresh, and remove seasonal décor and ensure common areas remain polished, organized, and presentation-ready.
Seasonal & Holiday Decorating
Design and install décor for recurring monthly themes and holidays, including:New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, summer themes, fall décor, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other community events.
Most décor is already purchased and stored onsite. The contractor will primarily use existing inventory while recommending enhancements when needed.
Key Areas
Focus on high-visibility and resident-facing spaces, including:
Lobbies and entrances
Living rooms and lounges
Dining rooms
Reception and common areas
Model rooms
Selected tables, mantels, shelving, and display areas
The contractor will also act as a design eye across the community, identifying opportunities to improve furniture placement, accessories, and overall presentation.
Model Rooms & Presentation Standards
The contractor will regularly assess model rooms and key spaces to ensure they are:
Clean, polished, and professionally styled
Warm, residential, and inviting
Free of clutter
Properly staged for tours and families
Consistent with community quality standards
Recommendations should be shared with Executive Directors and ownership.
Décor Sourcing & Budget
Each community has an approved décor budget.
The contractor may:
Recommend new décor or improvements
Create purchase lists for approval
Source items from approved retailers (e.g., HomeGoods or similar)
Coordinate shipping or in-store purchases when needed
All purchases must be pre-approved and remain within budget.
We prioritize quality, reusable décor and do not use paper or disposable decorations.
Design standard:Warm. Residential. Festive. Tasteful. Elevated. Inviting.
Organization & Storage
A key responsibility is maintaining décor inventory and storage systems.
This includes:
Removing and carefully packing décor after use
Wrapping fragile items with protective materials
Organizing and labeling storage bins by season/holiday
Maintaining clean, accessible storage areas
Identifying damaged or missing items
Supporting a consistent system for year-to-year reuse
Strong organizational skills are essential.
Annual Planning
At the start of the engagement, the contractor will collaborate with ownership to develop a 12-month decorating calendar, including:
Review of existing inventory
Assessment of each community’s layout and style
Identification of gaps or improvements
Seasonal and holiday planning
Installation and removal timelines
Creativity and fresh ideas are strongly encouraged.
Schedule
This is a recurring monthly project, not a full-time role.
Depending on assignment size, contractors may work several consecutive days each month to complete decorating cycles.
Full portfolio (7 communities): approx. 5–7 days/month
Smaller assignments: reduced monthly commitment
Holiday periods (especially Christmas) may require additional time.
Reliability and consistency are essential.
Compensation
Compensation is structured per community per decorating cycle:
Smaller communities: ~$350 per cycle
Larger communities (e.g., Long Beach, select Glendale sites): ~$650 per cycle
Additional shopping or sourcing work may be compensated at approximately $25/hour, subject to approval.
Décor budgets are separate from contractor compensation.
Final rates may vary based on:
Community size
Scope of décor
Installation complexity
Travel requirements
Seasonal demands
Sourcing needs
Commitment
We prefer a minimum six-month commitment, with the option to extend based on performance and mutual fit.
The goal is to build a long-term relationship with someone who becomes familiar with each community’s style and inventory.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
Loves decorating and home styling
Has strong design instincts and taste
Creates festive spaces without over-decorating
Has experience in staging, visual merchandising, interior styling, event décor, or similar work
Is highly organized and detail-oriented
Handles décor and property with care
Can pack and store items properly
Works independently and reliably
Communicates professionally with leadership and staff
Is comfortable in senior living environments
Has reliable transportation and is willing to travel
Can lift, carry, and install décor as needed
Prioritizes resident safety in all design decisions
Formal design credentials are not required. Strong taste, creativity, and a portfolio or examples of work are highly valued.
Safety Requirements

Décor must never:
Create trip hazards or block walkways

Introduce unsafe electrical or fragile elements in high-traffic areas
Placement decisions will be coordinated with Executive Directors.
Collaboration
The contractor will work closely with:

“This feels like home.”
Spaces should feel warm, elegant, and thoughtfully designed—festive when appropriate, but never cluttered or overdone.
Engagement Type

This is not an employee role. Work will be performed under a contractor agreement based on assigned communities, schedule, and scope of work.
