NOW HIRING: COMMUNITY SAFETY SPECIALIST
Aberdeen Police Department

The Aberdeen Police Department is seeking a personable, community-focused individual to serve as a Community Safety Specialist. This position acts as an ambassador for the City of Aberdeen, helping create a welcoming environment for residents, visitors, commuters, and businesses.

The Community Safety Specialist conducts foot patrols and engages with the public throughout the Main Street district and the transit-oriented district (TOD) surrounding the Aberdeen Amtrak station. A visible, approachable presence and a willingness to meet and greet people are central to this role.

Salary: $45,699 — $51,343, based on prior experience.

Responsibilities: to include other duties as assigned

• Conduct regular foot patrols throughout the designated areas.
• Engage with residents, visitors, commuters, and business owners.
• Provide information, directions, and assistance to the public.
• Build positive relationships that support the department’s community engagement efforts.
• Observe and report safety concerns to the appropriate police personnel.

Qualifications:

• Experience in law enforcement or a security-related field.
• Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills.
• A professional, courteous manner and sound judgment.
• Ability to conduct foot patrols and interact comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Availability to work a flexible schedule, with hours that may vary each week.

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office and field environment.
