The Division of Public Safety (DPS) at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Community Safety Official (CSO) Supervisor (Tech III)! The Community Safety Officials within DPS serve to support the overall mission of the University and CU Police Department. Community Safety Officials collaborate with many community partners and campus entities to address safety and security concerns for CU Boulder's campus. The main function of this position is to provide operational oversight and coordination within the CSO unit.
This position must communicate regularly with clients, building proctors, facilities management, internal department units, and other campus resources. CSOs follow standard protocols and provide safety/security resources for academic/general use buildings and open spaces on campus. This position conducts routine patrols of campus for visible deterrence of criminal activity and seeks to collaborate with campus partners to address safety and security concerns. CSOs maintain regular communication with the Police Department and Patrol Division, especially regarding any irregular or suspicious activity. Core responsibilities include providing building integrity, access control for campus buildings, routine locking of internal and external sections of buildings, report writing, and supervising Community Safety Officials who patrol buildings and campus.
The CSO supervisor recruits, hires, trains, and supervises staff within the work unit, which includes creating performance plans, annual performance evaluations, and providing periodic coaching and progress reviews. In support of the Director of Community Safety, this position may review fiscal budget plans and make purchases (aligned with university procurement requirements) to meet equipment and training needs of the CSO unit.

Security employees are expected to work shifts that may include days, evenings, and weekends. A regular schedule will be assigned, but shifts may rotate seasonally or due to gaps in staffing. The CSO Supervisor should demonstrate flexibility with work shifts in order to provide essential services security coverage when necessitated by business needs. CSOs are also expected to help provide security at special events on campus, to include athletic events, concerts, graduations, etc.
