Description
Under general supervision of the Community Risk Reduction Manager, provides fire and life safety education and community outreach initiatives with a primary focus on elementary and secondary school populations. Coordinates and delivers age-appropriate programming centered on fire prevention, injury prevention, overdose awareness and prevention, and overall life safety education. Supports Community Risk Reduction strategies through school partnerships, special events, and community engagement on behalf of the Fire Department.
Essential Functions
Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements/Success Factors
Associate's degree in education, public relations, or related field and two years of experience supporting public education, safety education, community outreach, youth programming, or public engagement initiatives, preferably with a government agency.
Knowledge of:
Modern principles and practices of event logistics
Principles and practices of curriculum implementation
City policy and procedures, ordinances, and fire/life safety codes
Principles of safety education programs, public relations, marketing, and advertising
Issues and ethics of care, protection, and accessibility as related to the Americans with Disabilities Act, Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations as it pertains to assigned areas.
Skill in:
Computer operation, applicable software, and graphics
Presenting education classes utilizing projectors, audio-speakers, and video recording devices.
Interacting with and coordinating with other agencies.
Ability to:
Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
Special Requirements
Valid Arizonas Driver License.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.

The temporary Community Risk Reduction Specialist requires an associates degree in education, public relations, or related field AND two years of experience supporting public education, safety education, community outreach, youth programming, or public engagement initiatives, preferably with a government agency. Any equivalent combination of experience and education which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is considered as qualifying.
