Three positions available.

Make a difference in the community while putting your communication, problem-solving, and administrative skills to work as a Community Resource Officer with the Chatham County Police Department. This diverse role supports public service and police operations through community engagement, records and administrative responsibilities, preliminary investigations, and connections to vital community resources.

Community Resource Officers may be assigned to the Behavioral Health Unit, Criminal Investigations Unit, or Support Services Division (Record Unit).

Examples of Duties

Under the direction of the Division Commander, you will

  • Provide administrative support to the assigned Division.
  • Perform various non-emergency public service-related functions.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations of non-emergency incidents, prepare incident reports, and conduct follow-up investigations by phone.
  • Perform front desk duties in your assigned division.
  • May develop, prepare, and maintain filing systems, logs, and records.
  • May receive and process daily inventory.
  • May log property and evidence and maintain database information, including generating and distributing reports.
  • Address public concerns by phone, letter, emails, and in person in a timely manner.
  • Use local, state, and national databases, a records management system, and records retention systems daily.
  • Greet and provide information to the public.
  • Assist with research of electronic, digital, and paper records.
  • Process Open Records request in accordance with State law and local ordinances.
  • View video and audio footage of police incidents and accidents.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with social service agencies, community organizations, and team members.
  • Attend public relations and community engagement events.
  • Provide accurate and reliable reports regarding services rendered and referrals to community resources.
  • Keep immediate supervisor and designated other team members accurately informed concerning work progress.
  • Respond to calls for assistance and access to community resources.
  • May provide non-emergency transport to community resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED, and
  • At least two (2) years of experience in customer service, clerical work, office administration, or a related field; or
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must successfully complete a requisite number of training hours directly related to the role of the position assigned.
  • Must be 21 years of age and meet the physical/visual requirements.
  • Must not have a felony conviction, pattern of misdemeanor convictions, or repeated traffic violations.
  • Must possess computer and administrative skills.

During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.

In accordance with the Department of Transportation, Commercial Drivers License (CDL) holders and those employed in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing.

Candidates with direct and relevant experience may receive an offer of up to 10% above the minimum salary that is posted, reflecting their exceptional qualifications.

CHATHAM COUNTY BENEFITS PLANS

Eligibility for benefits begins on your date of hire.

Full-time employees working a regular schedule of 30 or more hours per week are eligible for County benefits. Part-time, seasonal, and temporary employees are not eligible to participate in the County benefit plan. However, regular part-time employees accrue prorated vacation and sick leave based on their schedule.

HEALTH - Employees have a choice between a high or low option point-of-service health plan for themselves, their spouse, and eligible dependent children.

VISION - The vision plan offers a comprehensive eye exam and options for frames, lenses, and contact lenses.

DENTAL - Employees may choose either the high or low dental plan option with two cleanings per year and periodic x-rays at no cost.

EMPLOYEE HEALTH CENTER - Employees and their spouses on the County's health plan have access to the Employee Health Center for physical and behavioral health services, health coaching, and lab services at no cost.

RETIREMENT - Chatham County provides a Defined Benefit Pension Plan with a five-year vesting period.

LIFE & DISABILITY - Long Term Disability and basic Life Insurance coverage are provided at no cost to employees. Employees may also purchase additional life coverage for themselves and their dependent family members.

FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNTS - Chatham County offers Medical and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts through payroll deduction. The Medical FSA has a rollover feature equal to the annual Federal maximum.
