Description

HEPCO Inc. is seeking a dynamic, customer-focused Community Outreach & Energy Efficiency Specialist to support the Clean Energy Solutions (CES) Residential Energy Efficiency Portfolio.

This position is ideal for an outgoing professional who enjoys building relationships, networking, engaging with communities, and representing programs directly to customers. The successful candidate will serve as a program ambassador and community liaison, helping residential customers understand available energy-efficiency programs, incentives, and energy-saving opportunities.

The role works closely with marketing, customer outreach, business development, sales, and corporate communications teams to increase program awareness and participation throughout New Jersey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as an ambassador for residential energy-efficiency programs, educating customers and encouraging their participation in available programs and incentives.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for residential customers and community stakeholders.
  • Represent program and company interests professionally at community events, meetings, networking functions, presentations, and other customer-facing activities.
  • Proactively identify and secure opportunities to engage prospective program participants, residential organizations, associations, and community groups.
  • Coordinate and facilitate educational sessions, presentations, and informational meetings.
  • Develop creative and strategic approaches to customer outreach, including networking, direct outreach, targeted communications, cold calling, events, and community partnerships.
  • Collaborate with sales, business development, marketing, customer outreach, and corporate communications teams to expand program participation.
  • Promote energy-efficiency programs to employee groups, community-based organizations, residential associations, and other stakeholder audiences.
  • Develop presentations, correspondence, promotional messaging, educational materials, and other customer-facing communications.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key community stakeholders while establishing regular touchpoints and identifying potential partnership opportunities.
  • Respond to customer and stakeholder questions regarding residential energy-efficiency programs and available offerings.
  • Capture customer interest and assist in directing prospective participants toward appropriate programs and resources.
  • Support event planning and logistics while serving as an on-site brand and program representative.
  • Complete additional projects and outreach initiatives as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, public relations, marketing, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in corporate advocacy, community outreach, public relations, marketing, communications, customer engagement, or a related field.
  • Experience representing an organization or business with customers, community groups, clients, or other external audiences.
  • Strong public speaking and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to confidently serve as a company spokesperson or ambassador.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop educational and informational materials, including presentations, targeted correspondence, and promotional messaging.
  • Strong organizational, written communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to independently identify networking and customer-engagement opportunities.
  • Comfortable working directly with customers, sales teams, community organizations, and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to travel throughout New Jersey as required.
  • Ability to work in the Newark office or in the field a minimum of three days per week.
  • Occasional weekend availability for community events or program activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting community events, trade events, public meetings, or other customer-facing programs.
  • Background in public relations, communications, marketing, community engagement, business development, or customer outreach.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with community organizations and key stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of New Jersey residential associations, community organizations, or similar affiliations.
  • Experience developing outreach strategies designed to reach new customer audiences.
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency, renewable energy, utility programs, clean-energy initiatives, or customer incentive programs is highly desirable but not required.
  • An interest in sustainability, renewable energy, energy conservation, and clean-energy initiatives is a plus.

Work Environment

The role is a hybrid, customer-facing position with a minimum three-day-per-week in-person requirement. In-person responsibilities may include working from the Newark office, attending customer meetings, conducting community outreach, and participating in events.

Most field activity will take place throughout Northern New Jersey, although occasional travel to Southern New Jersey may be required. We will consider candidates located in New Jersey, New York, or nearby Pennsylvania who are comfortable meeting the in-person and travel requirements.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is personable, polished, proactive, and comfortable walking into a room as the face of an organization. You should enjoy meeting new people, developing partnerships, presenting information, and finding creative ways to reach new audiences.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in communications, public relations, marketing, community outreach, or business development who wants to apply those skills in the growing clean-energy and energy-efficiency sector.
