POSITION OVERVIEW The Community Liaison has the primary responsibility for developing and maintaining home -school communication in matters related to social and academic growth of identified students. Community liaison positions may be grant funded and are hired in schools which serve large populations of students with lower socioeconomic status.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Home School Communication & Support: Reporting directly to the building principal, the Community Liaison performs the following duties: Establish home contacts for all identified students. Provide assistance to families in establishing an effective student support environment. Work with parents to make effective use of available community services. Support consistent school attendance for students. Participates in family engagement events such as parent -teacher conferences, before/after school and weekend events to facilitate school-family-community connection.
Supports Parents/Guardians. Understanding of the schools' systems: Provides written and oral reports to schools and managers as required. With the support of an administrator or staff member, develops and delivers parent education programs. Participate in IEPs if requested as an advocate or to share information with family. Assist parents in understanding and utilizing school programs available to students. Support families with school enrollment as needed and programs from community partners. Educate parents on available wrap-around services. Support families completion of school-related forms. Assists with developing community partnerships that support wrap -around services for student/families.
Communication and Documentation: Communicate with families and school staff for support of the whole child and family needs Maintain daily record of family contacts. Communicate parent concerns to building principal where appropriate. Encourage two-way communication between parent and school staff. Use FCPS communication platforms to communicate with families as appropriate.

Additional responsibilities related to role: Participate in staff development programs that enhance job related skills. Transport children and families as appropriate. Maintain confidential information. Keep accurate records on any fund disbursements to clients. Support school -based functions such as arrival, dismissal, lunch duty and class coverage as needed. Organizing donations and other materials for distribution. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education/Training/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent
Certification/License: Possession of a valid driver's license with no more than 2 points received within the last three (3) years. Must carry auto insurance per FCPS threshold.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Education/Training/Experience: Associate degree Proficiency in a language other than English, Spanish preferred. General knowledge of school organization and programs. Some experience working with disadvantaged adults in the community. Familiarity with the community in the particular school area. Familiarity with the FCPS policies, goals and programs
