Description
Have you ever wanted to be a Firefighter/EMT? Now you can learn-on-the-job with Capital City Fire Rescue!
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for EMTs, or someone who would like to become an EMT, with experience working with vulnerable populations and who enjoy serving and working for the public. Patience and compassion in working with Juneau's most vulnerable populations is essential. If this is you, and you are able to work well both independently and as part of a team, then come join the Community Health Sobering Center team at Capital City Fire Rescue (CCFR).
THE BENEFITS OF JOINING OUR TEAM
Capital City Fire Rescue has overseen the Community Health Division, previously known as the CARES program, for its seventh year now. While continuing to expand our scope to increasingly help our community, we are simultaneously providing training and opportunities to grow for our employees. The Community Health Division works as a team. We have a unique opportunity to help our community, help one another, and ourselves all at the same time. We look forward to working with those with the same desires.
WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position works 12-hour shifts from 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM or 8:00 PM - 8:00 AM. You will work 3 shifts in the first week with 4 days off, then 4 shifts in the next week with 3 days off. Work location is based out of the Community Health Sobering Center located at St. Vincent De Paul.
Typical Responsibilities
This position is the basic entry-level into the Community Assistance Response & Emergency Services section within the Fire Department.
Under the general direction of the CARES Program Manager, you will respond to calls for service treating our most vulnerable populations that are suffering the impacts of drug and alcohol abuse.
This position operates CARES transport vehicles, or ambulances, and works both independently and with other emergency medical services personnel.
After assessing the general condition of impaired, ill, or injured individuals, you will provide care and transportation to the most appropriate facility. When transported to the Sobering Center, monitoring and reassessing is an essential part of duties.
Those in this position will be provided with the opportunity and training to achieve their EMT I certification if they are not already certified, and their Fire Fighter I certification if this is something they desire.
