Responsibilities

WFSU Public Media is seeking a motivated and organized Community Engagement Specialist to support our award-winning Education & Engagement team in planning, promoting, and executing education and outreach events that strengthen our connection to families, schools, and partner organizations across our broadcast area. This part-time role is ideal for someone passionate about public media, early learning, and community building.

  • Event Coordination: Collaborate with partner organizations and internal staff to plan, promote and prepare for WFSU's signature community events, including Be My Neighbor Day, Summer Challenge, Owl-O-Ween, Movie Nights and other family-centered hands-on activities.
  • Duties include communications, promotions, social media, logistics, vendor outreach, hands-on activities with children, their families and their teachers and volunteer/intern scheduling.
  • Volunteer & Intern Recruitment: Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and coordinating student interns and event volunteers to support WFSU's outreach efforts.
  • On-Site and Off-Site Event Support: Attend and support WFSU community events and activities as needed, which may include set-up/break-down, check-in, crafting stations, and various learning experiences with children, families, and their teachers. This position requires loading and unloading boxes of books and other heavy items. Please make sure you can easily lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Team Support: Provide assistance with additional engagement initiatives or administrative tasks as needed, contributing to a collaborative and mission-driven team environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and some college coursework in a related area and work experience with Children/Families and/or Communications.
  • A valid State of Florida or Georgia Driver's License or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
  • Must be willing and available to work occasional weekends and evening hours and travel to surrounding communities.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. transporting supplies and equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enthusiasm for PBS, PBS KIDS, NPR and the public media mission.
  • Bachelor's degree in education, communications, library sciences or other people focused degree.
  • Experience in early and elementary education, communications and social media content creation and coordination, community outreach, or nonprofit/public media work.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Friendly, approachable, and enthusiastic about working with families and children.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Canva, and social media platforms.

Candidates can expect up to two rounds of interviews. Those advancing to the second round will be asked to provide a work sample.

Anticipated Salary Range

Starting at $18 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.
