Under the direction of the Associate Director of Housing and Residential Education, the Community Director is a full-time, live-in, position that provides leadership and direction to a first year student, residential building of fewer than 325 students. The incumbent is responsible for managing all aspects of a residence hall including supervision of student staff, management of building facilities, developmental contact with residents and overseeing judicial, educational and social outreach.

Required Qualifications

• • Knowledge of counseling practices
• • Administrative ability and supervisory skills
• • Ability to work with, manage and train large groups

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Student Personnel or related field preferred
• Ability to work with diverse populations
• Knowledge of and commitment to maintaining a student development focus in their building
• Experience with Residence Hall Association (RHA)

Preferred Education/Experience

• Master's Degree in Student Personnel or Higher Education

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Organization & Administrative Skills - Managing budgets, occupancy, reports, and housing operations efficiently.

• Cultural Competence - Ability to support and affirm the experiences of Black men and foster an inclusive, respectful residential environment.
• Collaboration & Relationship Building - Working effectively with faculty, staff, and campus departments to support student success.
• Adaptability & Problem-Solving - Navigating a fast-paced environment and addressing evolving student and operational needs.

Demonstrate a working knowledge of developing and nurturing a residential community, which includes working with campus agencies, along with their services and functions, in order to provide academic and personal support to residential students.

Work cooperatively with students to ensure an environment, which displays respect for the rights and privacy of others and promotes consideration of individual needs in a group living environment
