Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Serves as the School of Science storyteller, identifying and developing compelling stories that showcase scientific research, academic programs, student success, faculty achievements and community impact.
- Develops and manages content across digital and print channels, including marketing materials, recruitment communications, social media, video, email, websites, and recruitment communications that enhance the visibility and reputation of the School of Science.
- Translates complex scientific and technical topics into engaging content for prospective students, alumni, donors, media, campus partners, and the broader community.
- Builds collaborative relationships with faculty, students, and staff to identify story opportunities and maintain a pipeline of content aligned with science priorities.
- Manages the School of Science social media presence through content planning, creation, publishing, community engagement, and performance analysis.
- Captures and manages photography and video for School of Science stories, events, celebrations, marketing initiatives, and faculty/staff directory needs.
- Leads communication and promotional efforts for designated School of Science programs, events, and strategic initiatives.
General Responsibilities
- Independently creates basic and complex communications for print and e-distribution on behalf of department or functional area within department and in support of departmental goals and objectives; communications may be interdepartmental; staff, faculty, or student-focused; or external.
- Responds to inquiries and requests and explains policies, procedures, and context of communications.
- Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders and creates communications coverage for relevant initiatives, events, and programs.
- Prepares communications timelines and shares progress of communications toward relevant deadlines with manager, team members, and other relevant constituents.
- Regularly monitors relevant social media and news sites; researches relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in area(s) of specialty.
- Utilizes various communications software programs and delivers communications in multiple formats to a variety of audiences.
- May provide guidance to lower-level Communications Generalists.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelors degree in communications, journalism, English, public relations, or a related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 2 years in a relevant field.
Preferred
- Experience in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field.

- Strong curiosity and storytelling instincts, with the ability to uncover and elevate stories that advance the visibility and reputation of the School of Science.
- Experience managing social media content and analytics across multiple platforms.
- Experience with photography and videography for marketing and communication purposes.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Express, Adobe Illustrator, and other Adobe Creative Cloud applications is desirable.
- Demonstrates exceptional attention to detail by ensuring accuracy, consistency, brand alignment and quality control across all communications, marketing materials, digital content and published information.
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
