Communications Assistant
The Buckley School, Los Angeles' oldest K-12 all-gender learning institution, has an opening for a Communications Assistant. This is a highly versatile, hands-on role that supports all aspects of the Communications Office. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications, this individual is willing to jump in wherever needed and comfortable handling a mix of creative, logistical, and administrative tasks.
The Communications Assistant provides essential support to both the Director and the Marketing and Digital Content Manager, serving as a visible, responsive presence on campus and helping ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Communications Support
- Manage and update all school calendars online
- Communicate with freelancers and external contractors such as photographers, videographers, and graphic designers to support them in meeting deadlines and other needs.
- Report, write, and collect content for newsletters, announcements, and internal updates
- Support website updates and behind-the-password resource boards
- Assist with social media content preparation and execution as assigned
Photography & Asset Management
- Serve as the primary on-campus photographer for daily school life, events, and activities
- Collect, organize, tag, and archive photos and videos for long-term use
- Maintain and improve the school's digital asset library
- Coordinate with student interns, faculty, and professional photographers as needed
Event & Campus Support
- Attend school events to provide photography and on-site communications support
- Gather content from faculty, staff, and students
- Support day-to-day needs of the Communications Office, including administrative and logistical tasks
- Step in wherever needed-no task too small
Procedural Responsibilities
- Upholds all expectations, policies and practices outlined in the school's employee handbook and other foundational documents, and directives from senior administrators
Students/Staff/Community Relations
- Creates warm and uplifting professional relationships with students, families, and all constituencies of the school
- Communicates in a timely and effectively manner
- Serves as an ambassador for the school at all times, on and off campus and speaking positively about the school and its community members
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Basic photography skills (professional experience a plus, but not required)
- Excellent written communication skills
- Familiarity with digital tools and platforms a plus
- Interest in communications, marketing, or storytelling

- Knowledge of Google Drive (Sheets and Docs), Blackbaud/Education Edge, and the ability to learn new and evolving technology
COMPENSATION
$25.00 - $28.00 per hour
The base salary is separate from fringe benefits, such as retirement contributions, daily lunch, on-site parking, contributions to medical, dental, vision, life/AD&D plans, our generous time off policy, or potential stipends (for eligible employees). Our pay ranges are reasonable estimates of what the School anticipates paying for a role but are not guaranteed. If hired at The Buckley School, your rate will be determined by your education and experience.
