Commodity Manager
Location: Florence, Alabama
Our client is seeking a Commodity Manager to lead strategic sourcing, supplier management, and cost reduction for indirect materials and services in a manufacturing environment. Transportation services are a key focus, including air, ocean, rail, and inbound/outbound freight. Candidates with other relevant commodity experience are also encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Develop sourcing strategies, manage competitive bids, and negotiate supplier agreements.
- Manage assigned categories, which may include freight/logistics, MRO, chemicals, scrap metal, packaging, and/or consumables.
- Partner with plant stakeholders to define requirements and support operational needs.
- Consolidate spend, expand blanket agreements, and improve purchasing efficiency.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs and inventory value.
- Support broader purchasing initiatives and demonstrate measurable savings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 3+ years of relevant procurement, sourcing, or commodity management experience in manufacturing.
- Freight sourcing experience preferred; experience with chemicals, lubricants, coatings, scrap metal, packaging, or other industrial commodities also considered.
- Solid working knowledge of SAP.
- Strong negotiation, stakeholder influence, and project management skills.
- Ability to build business cases and demonstrate cost reductions.
