Job Title: Commissioning SpecialistJob Description

This role focuses on commissioning mechanical and HVAC systems from installation through startup, testing, and owner turnover. The Commissioning Specialist coordinates closely with technicians, project managers, and field teams to execute commissioning tasks, ensure systems operate as designed, and maintain clear communication with internal and external stakeholders. The position requires strong technical understanding of mechanical and HVAC systems, attention to detail in documentation and quality control, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and follow established communication plans with internal and external stakeholders to provide clear and timely project status updates.
  • Review project schedules to understand milestones and critical path activities, and proactively identify future planning needs and constraints.
  • Collaborate with technicians, team leads, and other project managers to perform commissioning tasks and meet project schedule requirements.
  • Review plans, specifications, and submittals to verify that installed systems and equipment align with design intent and project requirements.
  • Execute commissioning activities, including system startup, functional performance testing, verification, and documentation of mechanical and HVAC systems.
  • Support customer satisfaction initiatives by building strong customer relationships, investigating concerns, implementing corrective actions, and communicating resolutions.
  • Perform inspections of mechanical and HVAC systems, complete checklists, and identify deficiencies or nonconformances.
  • Track corrective actions, verify completion, and ensure work meets project specifications and quality standards.
  • Support mechanical construction projects from installation through startup and owner turnover, coordinating with field teams and subcontractors.
  • Interpret mechanical and controls drawings, specifications, and submittals to support commissioning and integration activities.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities within active construction jobsite environments, considering safety, schedule, and access constraints.
  • Assist with testing, adjusting, and balancing (TAB) related activities as they relate to commissioning documentation and verification.
  • Contribute to quality assurance and quality control procedures by documenting results, maintaining records, and supporting turnover packages.
  • Communicate effectively with project teams, technicians, and building owners throughout the commissioning process to align expectations and resolve issues.

  • Experience executing commissioning activities, including system startup, testing, functional performance verification, documentation, and turnover of mechanical systems.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems, including air handlers, chillers, pumps, cooling equipment, ductwork, and overall system operation.
  • Experience supporting mechanical construction projects from installation through startup and owner turnover.
  • Ability to perform inspections, complete checklists, identify deficiencies, and track corrective actions.
  • Understanding of construction schedules, project milestones, critical path activities, and coordination within active jobsite environments.
  • Knowledge of mechanical building systems, equipment, piping, valves, and interpretation of mechanical drawings, specifications, and submittals.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel and Outlook.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 1-5 years of experience in the field of HVAC.
  • Experience working with building owners during commissioning and turnover is preferred.
  • Familiarity with building automation systems and controls integration, including interpreting one-line diagrams and testing control sequences and equipment functionality.
  • Experience with HVAC controls and building management systems (BMS) is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with data center or mission-critical environments is beneficial.
  • Experience with submittal review processes in construction and commissioning projects.
  • Familiarity with construction environments and quality control procedures.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and safety practices in construction and mechanical environments.
  • Exposure to or understanding of Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB) processes.
  • Ability to interpret controls one-line drawings for integration with equipment is a plus.

Work Environment

This position is based onsite in Haskell, Texas, within an active construction and commissioning environment. The role involves working both in the field around mechanical and HVAC equipment and in an office setting for planning, coordination, and documentation. The work environment includes coordination with field teams, subcontractors, and project stakeholders in a mission-critical or data center-type setting. Per diem is provided, and there is an option to stay in a man camp accommodation if selected. The role requires comfort working around mechanical systems, construction activities, and adherence to site safety and quality procedures.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Haskell, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $49.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
