Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, this role plays a critical part in ensuring VMG's mechanical and plumbing systems are properly installed, tested, documented, and fully operational before final with project teams to ensure successful project delivery.What You'll DoSupport the Commissioning ProcessSupport commissioning activities for commercial HVAC, plumbing, controls, and mechanical systemsVerify systems and equipment are installed and operating according to project drawings, specifications, approved submittals, and sequences of operationPrepare systems for testing and verification prior to third-party Commissioning Agent inspectionsCoordinate functional performance testing and other commissioning activitiesTrack commissioning progress, outstanding items, deficiencies, and corrective actionsSupport projects throughout startup, testing, commissioning, and final acceptanceTest & Verify System PerformancePerform and coordinate equipment startup, testing, and system verification activitiesReview system operation to confirm equipment performs according to design requirementsAssist with functional testing of HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and control systemsEvaluate system performance and identify operational or installation deficienciesVerify equipment settings, sequences, alarms, safeties, and control functionalityUtilize diagnostic tools and testing equipment to evaluate system performanceTroubleshoot & Resolve IssuesIdentify commissioning deficiencies and work with project teams to determine appropriate corrective actionsTroubleshoot mechanical, plumbing, and control system performance issuesReview sequences of operation and verify systems are functioning as intendedCoordinate with Project Managers, field teams, Controls Technicians, subcontractors, vendors, and equipment manufacturers to resolve issuesTrack deficiencies through completion and verify corrective workHelp identify potential system issues before formal third-party commissioningCoordinate Across Project TeamsWork closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, field personnel, Controls teams, and other project stakeholdersCoordinate directly with third-party Commissioning Agents throughout the commissioning processParticipate in commissioning meetings, project coordination meetings, and system reviewsCommunicate testing requirements, deficiencies, and project status clearly to internal and external teamsCoordinate with other contractors and trades when system performance depends on multiple scopes of workSupport successful turnover from construction through final commissioning and owner acceptanceManage Commissioning DocumentationReview mechanical drawings, specifications, submittals, sequences of operation, and control documentationMaintain accurate commissioning logs, testing records, deficiency lists, and project documentationDocument equipment startup and functional testing resultsAssist with commissioning reports and closeout documentationTrack required documentation and ensure commissioning deliverables are completed on scheduleWhat You BringBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, Construction Management, or a related field4+ years of experience with MEP systems commissioning, testing, startup, controls, or a related fieldStrong understanding of commercial HVAC and plumbing systemsUnderstanding of Building Automation Systems (BAS), HVAC controls, and sequences of operationExperience with system startup, testing, troubleshooting, and performance verificationAbility to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, submittals, and technical documentationStrong understanding of system operations and controlsFamiliarity with diagnostic tools and testing equipmentStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent organization, documentation, and communication skillsAbility to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlinesAbility to travel to project locations throughout the DMV region as requiredPreferred ExperienceCommissioning certification such as BCxP, CxA, CxT, CCP, or similarExperience commissioning large-scale commercial mechanical
