About the Role:

Responsible for leading the regional credit function by providing credit support to a large and complex portfolio of Commercial relationships and supporting a team of Commercial Underwriters to drive deal flow and assure consistency and quality in the Bank’s delivery of credit within an assigned region. Responsible for business development for the region, network and referral source expansion, and active involvement in the community. Does not personally produce but builds partnerships (internal and external) to attract business relationships while supporting a regional production team. Provides banking, credit, and market knowledge and expertise to the sales teams to empower the teams to win new relationships in the market. Ensures comprehensive analysis of all new credit requests (above a certain threshold), as well as adherence to bank credit quality guidelines and other applicable policies. Coordinate the regional credit pipeline and workflow with the various Commercial teams within the region to ensure smooth operation of credit originations, renewals, and modifications in a timely manner to support the sales teams and customers. Assist regional leadership in achieving its annual business goals, including credit, sales, new relationships, and talent development, attraction, and retention.

  • Provide regional leadership support on large and complex Commercial Banking loan portfolio by analyzing financial data to determine the merits of specific loan requests; regularly making and presenting formal recommendations to customers, Relationship Managers and Credit Administration. Acts as an executive credit sponsor on key relationships as needed.

  • Responsible for management, development and implementation of credit programs and processes together with key partners such as CQA that result in accurate and timely assessment of loan and portfolio risk, and timely actions that address identified risks.

  • Makes decisions on loans and terms within established lending limits or refers these issues to the next appropriate level of authority. Analyze credit to determine the ability of customers and prospective customers to qualify for ensuing borrowing requirements

  • Support and mentor Commercial Underwriters in the region to produce effective and complete loan application packages to ensure a streamlined application/approval process.

  • Analyze regional portfolio risks and trends within risk rating guidelines, evaluate credits, make appropriate recommendations, monitor collateral, renewals, annual loan reviews, past dues, etc.

  • Identifies opportunities to deepen relationships and/or expand the business in key areas of credit focus. Work with CQA to effectively drive and manage the credit origination and portfolio management functions within the region.

  • Responsible for the credit pipeline and ensure that credit origination aligns to the region’s annual growth and budget goals.

  • Assist regional leadership in achieving its annual business goals, including credit, sales, new relationships, and talent development, attraction, and retention.

  • Responsible for developing and nurturing relationships within the community to increase business development opportunities for all Middle Market Relationship Managers within a region. Actively participates in community/market events through organizations and board memberships to amplify the efforts Market team.

  • Responsible for deepening existing relationships to drive additional profitability to the bank, partnering closely with the Relationship Managers and executing to the Regional Directors strategy.

  • Responsible for participating in the development and retention of customer relationships together with the relationship team. Coordinate with internal and external service providers to facilitate effective collaboration throughout the credit decision and documentation processes.

  • Demonstrates compliance with all bank regulations for assigned job function and applies to designated job responsibilities – knowledge may be gained through coursework and on-the-job training. Keeps up to date on regulation changes.

  • Follows all Bank policies and procedures, compliance regulations, and completes all required annual or job-specific training.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of Bank's written policies and procedures regarding Bank Secrecy Act, Regulation CC, Regulation E, Bank Security and other regulations as applicable to this job description.

  • May be asked to coach, mentor, or train others and teach coursework as subject matter expert.

About You:

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in the field of Business, Finance, Accounting, or related fields (preferred)

  • Master’s Degree in the field of Business, Accounting, Finance, or related fields (preferred)


Experience

  • More than 10 years — of experience in senior credit approval/commercial lending and/or underwriting. (Required)


Skills

  • Significant experience and in-depth knowledge of Commercial lending, underwriting, and the finance industry.

  • Excellent relationship management and business development abilities, sales skills, and credit acumen.

  • Advanced knowledge of credit risk factors and ability to appropriately rate credits.

  • Extensive experience with banking regulations, policies, and methods of operation.

  • Proven leadership, organizational, negotiation, decision making, problem solving, and analytical abilities.

  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with executive levels. Interactions may include controversial situations, customer negotiations, or influencing and persuading.

  • The ability to communicate effectively with small and large audiences often includes presentations to customers at a high level (i.e. CFO, CEO, and other Executive levels).

  • Excellent planning and organization skills with the ability to change course (adaptable) at a moment’s notice.

  • Proven ability to drive results in a team-oriented, goal driven environment and partner with other leadership to maximize results.

  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Advanced interpersonal and credit leadership skills required. Proven ability to motivate, mentor and retain high-performing team members. Responsible for developing market talent within region for future growth of bank.

  • Possesses strong computer skills including use of the Microsoft Office suite with the ability to learn new business software, as needed.

The pay range for this role is $133,000.00 Minimum to $240,000.00.

The pay rate for the selected candidate is dependent upon a variety of non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, education, and geographic location. The role may be eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, and those details will be provided during the recruitment process.
