Commercial Portfolio Manager Development Program
The Commercial Portfolio Manager Development Program will provide a comprehensive introduction to Solvay Bank's commercial environment. The successful candidate will be immersed in a formal training and education program, focusing on credit analysis, underwriting and compliance with regulatory and policy requirements. This individual will be engaged with both our Credit and Commercial teams, ultimately supporting Relationship Managers in structuring, underwriting, and servicing loans, while acting as a resource for credit analysis, and portfolio reporting.

POSITION TITLE: REPORTS TO:
Commercial Portfolio Manager VP, Credit Department Manager
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Commercial Portfolio Manager is responsible for the ongoing management, monitoring, and administration of a portfolio of commercial loans. The role ensures the Bank maintains sound credit quality, compliance with regulatory and policy requirements, and timely service to commercial clients. The Portfolio Manager supports Relationship Managers in structuring, underwriting, and servicing loans, while acting as a resource for credit analysis, and portfolio reporting.
Portfolio Administration & Monitoring
- Maintain oversight of a portfolio of commercial loans (C&I, CRE, SBA, and small business).
- Conduct regular portfolio reviews, including covenant testing, collateral monitoring, financial statement tracking, and annual credit reviews.
- Monitor borrower performance through financial analysis, site visits, and client communication.
- Identify emerging risks and recommend appropriate actions, including restructuring, downgrades, or enhanced monitoring.
Credit Support
- Prepare credit memoranda for renewals, extensions, modifications, and annual reviews in accordance with Bank policy.
- Provide input into risk ratings and work with Credit Administration to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure timely and complete documentation consistent with regulatory and policy requirements.
Relationship & Client Service
- Serve as a secondary point of contact for clients to ensure timely response to inquiries, requests, and service issues.
- Participate in client and prospect meetings with Relationship Managers as needed.
- Identify opportunities for additional services (deposits, treasury, merchant services) and refer to Relationship Managers and/or cross sell.
Reporting
- Assists in monthly/quarterly reporting related to the tracking of financial statements, annual reviews, loan policy exceptions, loan covenants, etc.
- Assists in the reporting on and creation of various portfolio level reports, such as stress testing, portfolio management, etc.
- Responsible for creating ad hoc reporting using the Bank's loan origination system.
Collaboration & Team Support
- Partner with Relationship Managers, Loan Operations, and Credit Administration to ensure efficient loan origination and servicing.
- Contribute to departmental goals, reporting, and projects as assigned.
SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and strong analytical skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient working knowledge of excel, word processing and other financial software applications.
- Familiarity with reading business financial statements and tax returns.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 3+ years' experience in commercial credit, commercial lending, or commercial portfolio management.
- Proficiency in financial statement analysis and loan underwriting.
- Knowledge of banking regulations, loan documentation, and risk rating systems.
- Strong written, verbal, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively with internal teams.
