Retail Manager (Commercial Operations) 

Location: Gateway North America | Division: Retail 

Reports To: General Manager | Job Level: Manager (Exempt) 

 

About the Role 

 

Are you a passionate retail leader who thrives in a fast-paced, creative, and guest-focused environment? We are looking for an energetic and results-driven Retail Manager to lead the commercial operations of our LEGO® experience, including Retail and Food & Beverage operations. 

In this role, you will inspire a team to deliver exceptional guest experiences, drive commercial performance, optimize operational excellence, and create memorable moments that bring the LEGO® brand to life. You will combine your passion for people, retail excellence, and storytelling to ensure every guest leaves inspired to build, imagine, and create. 

 

The ideal candidate has experience leading high-volume retail operations, developing high-performing teams, managing inventory, and delivering outstanding customer experiences. Key Responsibilities 

 

Commercial & Financial Leadership 

Drive Business Performance 

  • Lead Retail and Food & Beverage operations to achieve revenue, profitability, transaction value, per-cap spend, and guest satisfaction goals.  

  • Analyze sales trends, operational performance, and guest insights to identify opportunities and implement action plans.  

  • Partner with the General Manager and leadership team to drive commercial strategies and deliver business objectives.  

Optimize Labor & Sales Execution 

  • Create effective staffing strategies that balance operational needs, guest experience, and financial performance.  

  • Lead seasonal campaigns, product launches, promotions, and guest engagement initiatives.  

  • Ensure the team delivers exceptional service while maximizing commercial opportunities.  

Reporting & Continuous Improvement 

  • Utilize financial reporting, operational data, and inventory insights to identify trends and improve performance.  

  • Present recommendations and solutions to senior leadership to enhance business results. 

 

Inventory & Operations Management 

Merchandising & Retail Standards 

  • Lead visual merchandising execution, product presentation, and retail floor standards that showcase the LEGO brand.  

  • Oversee product ordering, replenishment, and seasonal merchandising transitions.  

  • Support special events and occasional after-hours merchandising setups as needed.  

Inventory Management 

  • Maintain strong inventory controls, including stock accuracy, audits, shrink reduction, damage tracking, and compliance standards.  

  • Utilize inventory management systems, including Futura, to support effective decision-making and operational excellence.  

Operational Leadership 

  • Serve as a Duty Manager when required, supporting overall experience delivery, guest recovery, safety standards, and daily operations.  

  • Ensure all areas consistently reflect LEGO quality, cleanliness, and brand expectations. 

People Leadership & Guest Experience 

Build a High-Performing Team 

  • Recruit, onboard, train, coach, and develop Retail team members to reach their full potential.  

  • Conduct performance conversations, create development plans, and provide meaningful feedback.  

  • Foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels they belong and can contribute.  

Create Exceptional Guest Experiences 

  • Coach teams to deliver personalized, engaging, and memorable experiences for every guest.

What We’re Looking For 

Experience & Qualifications 

Retail & Commercial Leadership Experience 

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive retail leadership experience, with a proven track record managing high-volume operations, developing teams, driving sales performance, and delivering exceptional guest experiences.  

  • Experience leading large teams, managing complex operations, and achieving commercial results through strong execution, coaching, and accountability.  

Big Box Retail Experience Preferred 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a big-box retail environment or large-format retail operation preferred.  

  • Demonstrated success managing high-volume sales environments with responsibility for revenue performance, inventory management, merchandising standards, labor planning, and customer experience.  

  • Experience executing retail strategies, improving operational efficiency, and driving measurable business results through effective team leadership.  

High-Volume Guest Experience Leadership 

  • Experience in entertainment, attractions, hospitality, museums, or other high-footfall environments is highly valued.  

  • Ability to balance commercial priorities with creating engaging, memorable experiences for guests and families.  

Technical Skills 

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).  

  • Ability to quickly learn and utilize operational systems, including inventory management platforms.  

 

Education 

  • High School Diploma or GED required.  

  • College degree preferred.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements 

Schedule Flexibility 

  • Availability to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak operating periods.  

Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to stand and walk continuously throughout shifts.  

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting.
