Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Commercial HVAC Estimator to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial HVAC projects, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. You will review project plans and specifications, perform material and labor takeoffs, develop detailed proposals, and work closely with project managers to ensure bids are accurate, competitive, and aligned with project requirements.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in commercial HVAC estimating, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple bids while meeting deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial HVAC projects.
- Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents to determine project scope and constructability.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for HVAC equipment, ductwork, piping, controls, and related materials.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing.
- Develop complete project budgets and bid proposals.
- Calculate labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor costs.
- Prepare estimate revisions and change pricing as project requirements evolve.
- Maintain estimating databases and project documentation.
- Schedule and prioritize multiple bids to meet customer deadlines.
- Analyze Requests for Proposal (RFPs), drawings, and specifications to identify project risks and opportunities.
- Collaborate with project managers and operations teams during project handoff after award.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving alternatives while maintaining project quality and performance.
- Generate estimating reports and maintain accurate bid records.
- Stay current with industry pricing, labor trends, and commercial HVAC market conditions.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 7 years of commercial HVAC estimating experience.
- Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, equipment, installation methods, and construction practices.
- Experience preparing detailed estimates for commercial construction projects.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail and follow-through.
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
Preferred
- Experience with Timberline (Sage Estimating) or similar estimating software.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with value engineering and design-build projects.
- Knowledge of construction scheduling and budgeting.
