Commercial Construction Assistant Project Manager, On-site - Richmond, VA

This role supports the project management team on active commercial interior projects - metal framing, drywall, acoustical ceilings, EIFS, stucco, painting, and Division 8 and 10 specialties. You'll work under an experienced Project Manager, handling the coordination, documentation, and follow-up that keeps a job moving. It's a hands-on seat with real exposure to how jobs are actually run, and it's a common step toward managing your own projects.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Keep information flowing between the PM, field supervision, general contractors, and vendors so nothing gets lost between the office and the jobsite
• Assist with scheduling, manpower planning, and material coordination to hold the job to its timeline and budget
• Process submittals, RFIs, change orders, and daily reports; keep project records current and accessible
• Work with field leadership on quality and installation standards, and follow up on punch items
• Track costs and quantities, and flag issues to the PM before they turn into problems
• Take on the day-to-day roadblocks - a late delivery, a conflict in the field, a missing approval - and drive them to resolution

Background and Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field; equivalent field or office experience will also be considered
• 1+ years in commercial construction, project coordination, or a similar support role.
• Comfortable reading plans and specs, or ready to learn quickly
• Solid working knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, or similar construction software is helpful

Assistant PMs who succeed at UCS are organized, direct, and willing to chase down an answer instead of waiting for one. You'll be talking to superintendents, GC project engineers, and suppliers all day, so being able to communicate clearly and hold people to commitments matters more than polish. Expect to juggle several jobs at once and expect the priorities to shift. If you like predictable work with a fixed daily routine, this isn't the right fit.
