About the Opportunity

A well-established business law firm is seeking a Commercial Bankruptcy Associate to join its growing bankruptcy team. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with at least four years of corporate bankruptcy experience who is looking for sophisticated legal work within a collaborative, collegial environment.

The firm represents businesses and individuals across a range of complex legal matters, with a particular focus on bankruptcy, commercial transactions, healthcare, commercial real estate, litigation, and mediation.

The practice takes a client-focused and multidisciplinary approach, allowing attorneys to work closely with experienced partners and colleagues across multiple areas of law while maintaining a high degree of autonomy.

Position Overview

The ideal candidate will have at least four years of corporate bankruptcy experience, excellent academic credentials, and strong written and verbal communication skills.

The attorney will contribute to the representation of debtors and creditors in complex restructurings, workouts, distressed asset and debt acquisitions, insolvency matters, and bankruptcy proceedings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent debtors and creditors in corporate restructurings, workouts, distressed asset and debt acquisitions, and insolvency and bankruptcy proceedings

  • Work on Chapter 7, Chapter 11, and Chapter 12 matters

  • Represent adversary proceeding plaintiffs and defendants

  • Assist with creditors' committees, individual creditor matters, and trustee representations

  • Assist with receivership matters

  • Handle all aspects of discovery from start to finish

  • Draft and file pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents

  • Research and interpret developments in bankruptcy law and regulations at both the state and national levels

  • Contribute to the firm's mass tort bankruptcy practice, including related litigation

  • Assist partners with research and drafting for legal manuscripts, presentations, and other professional materials

  • Delegate work to paralegals and other support staff

  • Handle additional legal projects and responsibilities as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years of corporate bankruptcy experience

  • Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school

  • Admission to practice law in North Carolina, or willingness to obtain admission

  • Excellent academic credentials

  • Strong legal research, writing, and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience involving bankruptcy litigation

  • Bankruptcy Court or federal District Court clerkship experience

  • Background representing both debtors and/or creditors in complex bankruptcy matters
