Combination Building Inspector

Summary Combination Building Inspector, under the general supervision of the Chief Building Official, ensures code and zoning compliance through inspections of commercial and residential construction. Responsibilities include plan review, documentation, code guidance, complaint investigation, notice issuance, agency collaboration, code improvement suggestions, emergency support, and teamwork. Hourly Wage is Dependent on Certifications and related years of Experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Conducts inspections of commercial and residential construction projects (electrical, plumbing, mechanical, building, and related) to ensure code and some zoning/development standard complianceReviews commercial and residential construction plans for compliance with relevant codes and regulationsMaintains detailed documentation of inspections, violations, actions, plan reviews, and compliance for legal purposesConsults with and advises stakeholders (homeowners, builders, design professionals) on plans, code compliance, interpretations, and related proceduresInvestigates construction-related complaints, issues violation notices (Stop Work Orders, Dangerous Building notices), and reports unsafe conditionsCollaborates with other city agencies on design, licensing, and code requirementsFosters positive working relationships with various stakeholdersRecommends improvements to existing codes, regulations, policies, and proceduresAssists in the investigation of fires, explosions, or hazardous conditions and orders evacuations when necessaryActively participates in team functions, meetings, and activities to support team goalsFollows City financial policies, procedures, and safety guidelinesPerforms other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Combination Building Inspector I or II

Two (2) years of experience in building inspections, code enforcement, or construction trade

Combination Building Inspector III or IV

Three (3) years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in construction science, industrial technology, architecture, engineering, or related fieldPrevious construction inspection experience

Certificates and LicensesInspector I

Two (2) ICC Residential and/or Commercial Inspector certification OR Master Trade License (Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical) AND One (1) ICC Residential and/or Commercial Inspector certification OR Texas State Plumbing Inspector License

Inspector II

Texas State Plumbing Inspector License ANDTwo (2) ICC Energy Certifications (Residential and Commercial)

Inspector III

Texas State Plumbing Inspector License ANDTwo (2) ICC Energy Certifications (Residential and Commercial) ANDTwo (2) ICC Residential and/or Commercial Inspector Certifications

Inspector IV
