This is a Non-Permanent, Part-Time Position
This position requires current enrollment in college level courses at an accredited college or university. College transcripts/proof of enrollment must be provided prior to appointment. The candidate may be appointed at the College intern I, II, or III level depending on education and experience.
PAY RANGE:
College Intern I: $17.24 - $23.11 hourly
College Intern II: $17.77 - $23.81 hourly
College Intern III: $18.30 - $24.53 hourly

The ideal candidate is currently pursuing a major or minor in a technology-related field and is proficient with computers and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). They should also possess office skills, a basic understanding of HTML and web development, and demonstrate excellent communication, teamwork, and customer service abilities. Attention to detail, the ability to succeed in a fast-paced office environment, and availability to work a minimum of 12 hours per week are essential.
Temporary/part-time employment does not qualify to receive City benefits, except those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 7½% of base earnings to the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice. Further restrictions apply to CalPERS retired annuitants.

Knowledge of:
Computer operating systems/software
Basic website development
Business English, spelling and grammar

Equipment and personal computer operations

Effective public relations/customer service principles, practices and techniques
Ability to:
Utilize general office equipment such as telephone, fax, printers, copiers, and computers
Learn and apply City policies, procedures, rules and regulations
Conduct basic research, compile and analyze data and prepare accurate reports
Maintain work effectiveness and meet deadlines with frequent changes in workload and the priority of assignments
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions
Communicate clearly and concisely
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Provide quality customer service
Education: High school diploma (or GED) and current enrollment in college level courses at an accredited college or university.
Experience: General office, public contact, and/or government-related experience highly desirable.

The SALARY RANGE is composed of seven steps. Merit step increases are based on satisfactory performance.
PROMOTIONS within the City are based upon the merit system principles emphasizing individual ability and utilizing competitive examinations.
CREDIT UNION membership is available to all City employees and provides access to low interest loans.
