Job Description

The Compliance Officer is responsible for providing guidance and expertise in the College's legal, regulatory, and compliance functions to minimize institutional risk and support adherence to applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. This position monitors legal and regulatory developments affecting higher education; develops, reviews, and updates policies, procedures, and practices to maintain compliance; and serves as a key advisor to College leadership on complex legal and compliance matters. The role is responsible for providing guidance to administrators, faculty, staff, and students on compliance-related issues and managing certain institutional legal records. Additionally, the position serves as the primary point of contact for compliance matters, helping stakeholders navigate legal and regulatory requirements while supporting the College's operational and strategic objectives.

This is an exempt, professional staff position reporting to the VP, HR, Risk & Compliance.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Education

Associate's degree; degree can be substituted for 2 additional years of required experience.

Required Experience

Minimum of three (3) years of experience interpreting and applying federal and state laws, regulations, and compliance requirements, including Title IX, ADA/Section 504, FERPA, FOIA, or similar legal and regulatory frameworks.

  • Experience identifying and mitigating liability
  • Experience working within a community college

Hours per Week 40 - 100% General Weekly Work Schedule

Monday to Friday, generally 9 a.m.- 5.pm.
