POSITION PURPOSE
Responsible for organizing, planning, directing, and controlling all operations of the Member Solutions Department. Oversees all collections functions including the control of credit accounts that are late, potentially delinquent, delinquent, or charged off. Assists in the resolution of difficult and complex account situations. Performs periodic evaluation of collections policies and procedures and modifies as needed. Ensures established policies, procedures, and legal requirements are followed. Coordinates activities, ensuring all subordinate areas of responsibility support Credit Union objectives. Trains, directs, and appraises personnel. Ensures services are delivered professionally and efficiently.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
35% Reviews, schedules, trains, and monitors the work and calls of direct reports: assists in performance reviews and quality control; allocates resources to meet operational needs within the department; reviews and approves, denies or modifies department recommendations from subordinates.
30% Contacts delinquent accounts by phone and mail; takes appropriate action to bring current.
10% Analyzes financial situation of delinquent borrowers; takes action to repossess collateral when arrangements to bring the loan current are unsuccessful.
10% Manages the remarketing of repossessed collateral and determines appropriate expenditures to maximize recovery.
10% Informs management of trends in loan underwriting contributing to delinquent/charged‑off loans.
5% Performs other job related duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
1. Collections functions are effectively and efficiently performed in accordance with established Credit Union policies and procedures, and with related legal requirements.
2. Delinquent and problem accounts are closely monitored and reviewed.
3. Delinquent accounts are promptly addressed and resolved. Appropriate and timely legal actions are initiated. Delinquency/collection ratios meet management standards.
4. Professional business relations exist with related agencies, organizations, institutions, and problem members. Members are appropriately assisted in resolving their problems. The Credit Union is professionally represented in all business and legal matters.
5. Required collections documentation, reports, and records are complete, accurate, and timely. Management is appropriately informed.
6. Collections personnel are well trained and effective, and their activities well coordinated. Assistance and support are provided as needed.
7. Good coordination and working relations exist with related department personnel. Assistance is provided as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification: A two-year college degree or completion of a specialized certification or licensing or job specific skills.
Required Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of collections, servicing, bankruptcy procedures, and legal requirements
Understanding of Credit Union default enforcement clauses
Experience Required: Three years to five years of similar or related experience
Skills/Abilities: Excellent communication and public relations skills
Ability to work in stressful, high pressure situations
Solid analytical and negotiating skills
Strong leadership and supervisory abilities
Able to operate computer applications, financial calculator, and other basic business equipment
