Description

Collections Specialist II

Use Your Collections Experience to Help People — Not Just Collect Payments.

$22.00–$25.00/hour | Full-Time | Hybrid Opportunity After Training

At Chief Financial Credit Union, collections looks a little different.

Of course, our goal is to resolve delinquency and protect the Credit Union. But we also know there's a person behind every past-due account — and the right conversation can make a real difference.

We're looking for an experienced Collections Specialist II who knows how to balance empathy with accountability. Someone who can ask for payment, negotiate solutions, hold members accountable, and take appropriate collection action when necessary — while still treating every member with dignity and respect.

If you have experience in collections, loan servicing, lending, banking, or credit unions and want to use those skills in a member-focused environment, we'd love to meet you.

Why You'll Want to Work Here

Along with a competitive $22.00–$25.00/hour pay range, eligible full-time employees receive a comprehensive benefits package including:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO or BCN HMO medical coverage with a $500 deductible
  • Employer contributions toward medical, dental, and vision premiums
  • $50,000 in life insurance — 100% employer paid
  • Short-Term and Long-Term Disability — 100% employer paid
  • 401(k) employer contribution
  • Paid holidays
  • Generous vacation and paid time off
  • Insurance waiver rebate for eligible employees who don't need medical coverage through Chief
  • Tuition reimbursement after one year of employment (qualifying terms apply)

What You'll Do

As a Collections Specialist II, you'll manage delinquent consumer loans and deposit accounts while working directly with members to determine the best path forward.

You'll:

  • Contact members regarding delinquent loans and accounts and work toward bringing accounts current.
  • Talk with members about their financial circumstances and identify realistic repayment solutions.
  • Negotiate and establish payment arrangements and follow up on commitments.
  • Analyze financial situations and determine appropriate next steps when traditional repayment arrangements aren't successful.
  • Manage credit reporting disputes and negative deposit accounts.
  • Prepare accounts for repossession or legal action when other collection efforts have been exhausted.
  • Monitor accounts for potential fraud or other concerns.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of collection activity, member conversations, commitments, and follow-up.
  • Work toward individual and department collection goals while providing professional, respectful member service.

This isn't a role where every account or every conversation looks the same. Good judgment matters.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who already understands the fundamentals of collections and is ready to handle more complex accounts and conversations.

You may be a great fit if you:

  • Have previous collections, lending, loan servicing, banking, credit union, or financial services experience.
  • Are comfortable discussing delinquency and confidently asking for payment.
  • Can balance member service with accountability.
  • Know how to negotiate, problem-solve, and work toward mutually workable solutions.
  • Understand when an account requires additional collection action.
  • Communicate confidently and professionally by phone and in writing.
  • Can manage multiple accounts, follow-up dates, commitments, and deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and pay close attention to detail.
  • Are comfortable working toward individual and department performance expectations.
  • Handle confidential and sensitive financial information professionally.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED.

Schedule

Monday–Friday | 8:40 a.m.–5:15 p.m.

Team members also participate in a rotation that includes:

  • Late nights until 6:15 p.m.
  • Saturdays from 8:40 a.m.–12:15 p.m.

Hybrid Opportunity After Training

This position is classified as an in-office role. We believe being together during training is important to learning our systems, understanding our culture, and building strong connections with your team.

Once fully trained and consistently meeting performance expectations, employees may have the opportunity to work remotely 1–2 days per week, based on department and business needs.

Remote work is not guaranteed and may vary over time.

A Different Approach to Collections

We aren't looking for someone who believes successful collections simply means making the most calls or demanding payment.

We're looking for someone who can get results while understanding the member on the other end of the conversation.

Sometimes success means collecting a payment in full. Sometimes it's creating an arrangement that gets an account back on track. Other times, it's recognizing that additional collection action needs to be taken.

The common thread is knowing how to approach each situation with confidence, good judgment, empathy, and accountability.

If that's how you approach collections, we want to hear from you.

Apply today to join Chief Financial Credit Union as our next Collections Specialist II.
