Coding Specialist I

Job Summary:

Responsible for reviewing a patient's medical records after a visit or procedure to translate information into appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes that insurers use to process claims.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Proficient knowledge in medical terminology and codes, hospital policies, and government regulations.
• Clear communication and active listening skills to interact with a diverse staff and functions.
• Problem-solving skills for both straightforward and complex coding concerns.
• Well-versed in conflict management, maintaining composure during stressful situations.
• Attention to detail for accurately identifying coding and billing errors.
• Organizational and time management skills to maintain workload and productivity independently.
• Adaptability to an ever-changing role with evolving responsibilities.
• Ability to collaborate with others and work as part of a team.
• Proactive in ensuring tasks are completed on time with minimal supervision.
• Experience with database, spreadsheet, and word processing software.
• Understanding of physiology, anatomy, and medical terms.
• Must maintain credentials throughout employment.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• One (1) year of ICD-10 coding experience.
• One (1) year of experience in the medical field.
