    Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications:

     

    2 years’ coding experience in an acute care facility

    Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology

    Knowledge of coding conventions (ICD‑10‑CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS)

    Knowledge of CMS coding requirements

    Computer proficiency; ability to research coding questions and utilize educational resources

     

    Licensure, Registration, Certification:

     

    One of the following:

    Credentialed through American Health Information Management Association in one of the following:

    • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
    • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
    • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
    • Certified Coding Associate (CCA)

    OR

    Credentialed through American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) in one of the following:

    • Certified Outpatient Coder (COC)
    • Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC)
    • Certified Professional Coder (CPC)

    Desired Qualifications:

     

    Associate's degree

    Responsibilities:

    Assigns and sequences codes for complex inpatient, observation, and outpatient surgery encounters according to established regulatory guidelines, industry best practices, and Infirmary Health (IH) policies and procedures. May also be required to assign codes for outpatient and emergency department encounters, as needed.
