    Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications:

     

    1 year coding experience in an acute care facility

    Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology

    Knowledge of coding conventions: ICD‑10‑CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS

    Knowledge of CMS coding requirements

    Proficient computer skills; ability to research coding questions and utilize educational resources required

     

    Licensure/Certification/Registration:

     

    One of the following:

    Credentialed through American Health Information Management Association in one of the following:

    • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
    • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
    • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
    • Certified Coding Associate (CCA)

    OR

    Credentialed through American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) in one of the following:

    • Certified Outpatient Coder (COC, COC-A)
    • Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC)
    • Certified Professional Coder (CPC, CPC-A)

    Desired Qualifications:

     

    Associate degree

    Responsibilities:

    Assigns and sequences code for complex outpatient accounts according to established regulatory guidelines, industry best practices, and Infirmary Health (IH) policies and procedures. May also be required to assign emergency department charges, as needed.
