We are seeking an experienced
CockroachDB Database Administrator (DBA) to design, deploy, administer, and optimize enterprise-scale Cockroach Database clusters in highly available, multi-region production environments. The ideal candidate will have expertise in distributed database architecture, performance tuning, disaster recovery, automation, and operational excellence. This role involves ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, scalability, and optimal database performance while collaborating closely with infrastructure, DevOps, and application teams.
Key Responsibilities- Design, deploy, configure, and administer CockroachDB clusters across multi-region production environments.
- Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and strong data consistency for distributed database deployments.
- Monitor database cluster health, replication status, latency, resource utilization, and overall system performance.
- Perform capacity planning and implement proactive scaling strategies to support business growth.
- Diagnose and resolve complex database and infrastructure issues, including:
- Node failures
- Network partitions
- Leaseholder and range imbalances
- Replication lag
- Data hotspotting
- High latency and throughput bottlenecks
- Optimize SQL queries, indexing strategies, and database schemas to improve application performance.
- Develop and implement disaster recovery strategies, including multi-region failover, backup, restore, and point-in-time recovery (PITR).
- Automate database provisioning, cluster scaling, upgrades, patching, and operational tasks using scripting and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Perform rolling upgrades with minimal or zero downtime.
- Create and maintain operational runbooks, SOPs, monitoring dashboards, and incident response documentation.
- Participate in production support, incident management, root cause analysis (RCA), and on-call rotations.
- Collaborate with DevOps, Cloud Infrastructure, and Application Development teams to ensure reliable database operations.
- Implement database security best practices, access controls, and compliance standards.
- Continuously improve database reliability, automation, monitoring, and operational processes.

Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- CockroachDB certifications are a plus.
- Cloud platform certifications (AWS, Azure, or GCP) are desirable.
Experience Requirements- 8 10 years of experience as a Database Administrator or Database Engineer.
- Hands-on experience administering CockroachDB in production environments.
- Strong experience managing distributed SQL databases and multi-region deployments.
- Expertise in SQL performance tuning and database optimization.
- Experience implementing backup, restore, disaster recovery, and high availability solutions.
- Experience automating database operations using scripting or Infrastructure as Code tools.
- Strong understanding of Linux system administration and cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident response in enterprise environments.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
