The Assistant Coach will work collaboratively with the Head Coach to provide student-athletes with a safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate athletic experience. (Multiple Assistant Track Coach positions available.)\n \nOUR DISTRICT\n \nThe Sultan School District is one of the larger geographical school districts in the Puget Sound area, consisting of approximately 325 square miles. Sultan School District has approximately 2,200 students enrolled K-12. Students are currently served by two elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and an alternative high school; and the Sno-Isle Skills Center, a cooperative vocational technical school.\n \nOUR COMMUNITY\n \nLocated northeast of Seattle (seven miles east of Monroe) or about 20 minutes from the Woodinville area, Sultan is surrounded by a beautiful environmental setting. Contact Human Resources, 360-793-9800, 514 4th Street, Sultan, WA 98294\n \nESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITITES\n \nThe successful candidate will assist in coaching athletes across a variety of track and field events while helping foster a positive team culture that promotes academic achievement, character, and athletic participation.\n\n Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting daily practices and competitions.\n Teach and demonstrate proper techniques for track and field events, including running, jumping, and throwing events.\n Support the physical, mental, and emotional development of student-athletes.\n Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, responsibility, and respect among participants.\n Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, transportation, and team activities.\n Assist with athlete evaluation, event assignments, and skill development.\n Help organize and maintain track and field equipment and facilities.\n Ensure student-athlete safety by monitoring training activities and enforcing safety procedures.\n Assist with meet preparation, setup, and event operations as assigned.\n Communicate effectively with student-athletes, families, coaching staff, and school personnel.\n Support compliance with district policies, athletic eligibility requirements, and league regulations.\n Attend coaches' meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities as required.\n \nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS\n\n High school diploma or equivalent.\n Knowledge of track and field rules, techniques, and conditioning principles.\n Experience coaching or participating in track and field or related sports.\n Ability to work effectively with middle school-aged students.\n Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.\n Current First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain certification before the season begins.\n Successful completion of required background checks and district hiring requirements.\n \nPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS\n\n Previous coaching experience in track and field, cross country, or related sports.\n Experience working with adolescent athletes.\n Knowledge of event-specific training techniques and athlete development.\n Completion of coaching education or certification programs.\n Experience promoting positive character development and leadership through athletics.\n \nKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES\n\n Understanding of track and field events, rules, and competition procedures.\n Ability to teach proper athletic techniques and safety practices.\n Strong interpersonal and motivational skills.\n Effective communication and collaboration abilities.\n Organization and time-management skills.\n Commitment to creating a positive, inclusive, and supportive athletic environment.\n Ability to serve as a positive role model for student athletes.\n \nPHYSICAL RQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT\n\n Ability to demonstrate athletic skills and event techniques.\n Ability to stand, walk, run, and actively participate during practices and games.\n Ability to lift, carry, and move athletic equipment.\n* Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.\n \nWork is typically performed outdoors; requires substantial extra-hours work, travel between sites, stamina and endurance, and physical exertion associated with demonstrating techniques; must be willing to work outdoors in inclement weather; may be required to balance, crouch, crawl, bend, kneel, and stand for prolonged periods; may be exposed to high noise levels and childhood diseases; and may experience a multitude of demands and changing priorities with frequent interruptions.\n \nEVALUATION\n \nThe Assistant Coach shall be evaluated within 20 days of the close of the sports season by the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director pursuant to the currently established district procedures and evaluation criteria. The process shall include an evaluation of the employee's performance of the above essential job functions.\n \nCONDITIONS\n \nEMPLOYEES ARE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ALL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION.
