The Assistant Coach will work collaboratively with the Head Coach to provide student athletes with a safe, encouraging, and developmentally appropriate athletic experience that emphasizes endurance, goal setting, sportsmanship, and teamwork.\n \nOUR DISTRICT\n \nThe Sultan School District is one of the larger geographical school districts in the Puget Sound area, consisting of approximately 325 square miles. Sultan School District has approximately 2,200 students enrolled K-12. Students are currently served by two elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and an alternative high school; and the Sno-Isle Skills Center, a cooperative vocational technical school.\n \nOUR COMMUNITY\n \nLocated northeast of Seattle (seven miles east of Monroe) or about 20 minutes from the Woodinville area, Sultan is surrounded by a beautiful environmental setting. Contact Human Resources, 360-793-9800, 514 4th Street, Sultan, WA 98294\n \nESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITITES\n \nThe successful candidate will help foster a positive team culture while promoting healthy lifestyles, academic success, and a lifelong appreciation for running and physical fitness.\n\n Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting practices, training sessions, and competitions.\n Teach proper running techniques, conditioning methods, stretching routines, and injury prevention practices.\n Support the development of student athletes' physical fitness, confidence, and personal goals.\n Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, respect, responsibility, and positive character development.\n Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, transportation, and team activities.\n Monitor athlete participation and encourage safe training habits.\n Assist with race preparation, event logistics, and meet-day operations.\n Help maintain and organize team equipment and supplies.\n Communicate effectively with student-athletes, families, coaching staff, and school personnel.\n Support compliance with district policies, athletic eligibility requirements, and league regulations.\n Attend required coaches' meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.\n Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages participation by students of all ability levels.\n \nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS\n\n High school diploma or equivalent.\n Knowledge of cross country, distance running, conditioning, and training principles.\n Experience coaching, participating in, or supporting cross country, track and field, or related endurance sports.\n Ability to work effectively with middle school-aged students.\n Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.\n Current First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain certification prior to the start of the season.\n Successful completion of required background checks and district hiring requirements.\n \nPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS\n\n Previous coaching experience in cross country, track and field, or related athletic programs.\n Experience working with adolescent athletes.\n Knowledge of age-appropriate training and athlete development.\n Completion of coaching education or certification programs.\n Experience promoting character development, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles through athletics.\n \nKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES\n\n Understanding of cross-country training, conditioning, and race preparation.\n Ability to motivate and encourage student-athletes of varying skill levels.\n Strong interpersonal and communication skills.\n Effective organizational and time-management abilities.\n Commitment to student safety, wellness, and positive athletic experiences.\n Ability to work collaboratively with coaching staff, parents, and school personnel.\n Ability to serve as a positive role model for student athletes.\n \nPHYSICAL RQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT\n\n Ability to run, walk, and actively participate during practices and competitions.\n Ability to demonstrate running drills, stretches, and conditioning exercises.\n Ability to work outdoors in varied weather and terrain conditions.\n* Ability to lift, carry, and move athletic equipment and supplies as needed.\n \nWork is typically performed outdoors; requires substantial extra-hours work, travel between sites, stamina and endurance, and physical exertion associated with demonstrating techniques; must be willing to work outdoors in inclement weather; may be required to balance, crouch, crawl, bend, kneel, and stand for prolonged periods; may be exposed to high noise levels and childhood diseases; and may experience a multitude of demands and changing priorities with frequent interruptions.\n \nEVALUATION\n \nThe Assistant Coach shall be evaluated within 20 days of the close of the sports season by the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director pursuant to the currently established district procedures and evaluation criteria. The process shall include an evaluation of the employee's performance of the above essential job functions.\n \nCONDITIONS\n \nEMPLOYEES ARE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ALL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION.
