    Description

    CNC Swiss Turning Setup Specialist

Nelson Numeric, a Sussek Machine Company in Bloomington, MN, builds complex, tight-tolerance components for aerospace customers. On our Weekend Shift, you’ll be the expert who brings multi-axis Swiss-type lathes to life—owning setups, dialing in programs, and ensuring every part meets the print.

    A day in this role

You arrive and review the work orders and aerospace prints for the day’s bar-fed runs. You load material, pre-set tooling, and perform a quick health check on your Tsugami Swiss lathe. You prove out a program on an exotic alloy, fine-tune feeds and speeds, and capture SPC data using comparators, CMMs, Trimos, and precision gauges. Between runs, you coach a teammate through a changeover, update offsets, and log inventory counts so the next job launches without delay.

    What you’ll own

    • Swiss Setup + Operation: Independently set up, adjust, and run multi-axis Swiss machines with live tooling to hit safety, quality, and output targets.
    • Programming + Prove-Outs: Read, interpret, and edit G & M code; validate programs; and precisely calculate/adjust feeds and speeds for exotic alloys.
    • Tooling + Care: Pre-set, change, and adjust tools; perform daily machine maintenance to sustain uptime and accuracy.
    • Quality + SPC: Measure and record SPC data using comparators, CMMs, Trimos, and precision gauges; verify parts to tight GD&T requirements and maintain accurate inventory counts.
    • Collaboration + Training: Support process development, participate in pre-production and program prove-outs, and mentor operators during changeovers.

    What you bring

    • Experience: 5+ years of CNC machining focused on Swiss turning.
    • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; a 2-year Machining Technology degree or CNC trade program preferred.
    • Technical depth: Fluent in G & M codes; skilled blueprint interpretation; strong shop math and GD&T.
    • Physical: Able to stand for the shift and lift/carry up to 70 lbs.
