Quick Highlights
- Run modern GMM and CMS equipment — four CNC machines, a 5-axis double-table CNC saw, a single-table CNC saw, a waterjet, and Slabsmith
- High-end custom work, not high-volume production: premium quartzite, quartz, and granite on the intricate projects other fabricators turn down
- A growth path toward CNC Programmer, working alongside our CAD team
- Steady, full-time work — our production schedule is booked well ahead, with overtime available
- Stone experience is a plus, not a requirement — skilled CNC router operators from cabinet, millwork, solid-surface, or other fabrication shops are welcome
- Accredited Natural Stone Company with a fully wet shop and real investment in dust control and safety
About Alpha Granite
Alpha Granite has been Central Texas’s trusted countertop fabrication and installation company since 2003. As an Accredited Natural Stone Company through the Natural Stone Institute, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of quality, craftsmanship, and shop safety. We are not a big-box or high-volume production shop — we specialize in high-end residential and commercial work, the small, custom, intricate projects that other fabricators will not touch. Our material mix is increasingly premium natural stone like quartzite, alongside quartz and granite.
Our shop runs modern GMM and CMS equipment, including 5-axis and single-table CNC saws, a waterjet, multiple CNC machines, edge and face polishers, and Slabsmith for slab scanning and inventory. We run a fully wet shop and take dust control, masks, and safety compliance seriously — it is a core part of how we operate.
About the Role
We are hiring a CNC Operator to run our CNC machines on the production floor. You will take approved programs from our CAD department, confirm they match the drawings and the material, and turn premium stone slabs into accurate, finished pieces. On custom, high-value work, the operator is the last check before the cut — so precision, care, and pride in the result matter here.
This is a hands-on seat with room to grow. Operators who show strong skills and interest can develop toward a CNC Programmer role over time.
What You’ll Do
- Operate CNC machinery to keep daily production on schedule
- Load and unload stone safely onto the CNC bed using an overhead crane and vacuum lifter
- Review CAD/CAM tool paths and confirm they match the AutoCAD drawings before cutting
- Verify the correct material is selected for each program
- Measure materials and parts before cutting, and run quality checks to confirm finished pieces meet spec
- Track processing time and complete quality control documentation
- Keep your workspace clean, organized, and safe in a fully wet shop
- Support routine equipment maintenance and help coordinate repairs when needed
- Follow OSHA guidelines and all company safety procedures, and take part in team meetings, trainings, and safety sessions
What You Bring
Required:
- Experience operating CNC routers in a fabrication or manufacturing environment
- Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings, blueprints, and shop drawings
- Accurate measuring with a tape measure and digital calipers
- Basic computer skills and comfort navigating machine operating systems
- Ability to operate overhead cranes and vacuum lifters safely
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to precision
- Dependability and a team-first attitude, with the ability to work overtime when production requires it
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and wear required PPE, including steel-toe shoes and eye protection
- Ability to pass a physical exam, background check, motor vehicle check, and drug screen
Preferred (a plus, not required):
- 3+ years of experience operating CNC routers
- Stone fabrication experience, especially with quartzite and other natural stone
- Exposure to CAM programming (AlphaCAM, Easy Stone, or similar) or 5-axis equipment
- Experience in a fast-paced production environment
- Bilingual English/Spanish
Who Thrives Here
- You check the program against the drawing before you push start, every time
- You would rather catch a problem at the machine than have the polisher or installer find it
- You like custom, intricate work more than running the same cut a hundred times
- You take safety and the wet-shop rules seriously, and you keep your station clean
- You want to keep learning, and you see programming as your next step
