**Company Overview:
**
Our client is an established steel-fabrication and machining company producing large, precision-engineered components for heavy-industrial customers across the United States.
With more than 50 years in operation and over 170 employees, the company combines custom job-shop machining with production manufacturing while maintaining strict safety, quality and delivery standards.
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to set up, operate and edit programs on large CNC machine tools.
This is a skilled machinist position - not a machine-tending role. The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently from complex engineering drawings, selecting tooling, adjusting programs and inspecting precision-machined components.
Equipment includes large horizontal boring mills, vertical mills and CNC vertical turning lathes equipped with FANUC controls, rotary tables and automatic tool changers.
Key Responsibilities:
• Set up and operate large CNC mills, boring mills and vertical turning lathes.
• Read and interpret complex engineering drawings and machining specifications.
• Edit CNC programs to maintain dimensional accuracy and finish requirements.
• Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures and workholding.
• Machine large steel components and pre-machined parts.
• Monitor cutting conditions and adjust speeds, feeds and offsets.
• Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators and other precision instruments.
• Load, position and remove large workpieces using overhead cranes.
• Work with programming personnel to improve machining methods and cycle times.
• Identify tooling, setup or dimensional issues before they affect product quality.
• Maintain accurate production and inspection records.
• Meet production deadlines without compromising safety or quality.
• Keep machinery and work areas clean, organized and safe.
Required Qualifications:
• At least five years of CNC machining experience.
• Four or more years operating CNC milling machines.
• Four or more years operating CNC lathes.
• Experience machining large steel components.
• Strong CNC setup and program-editing skills.
• Ability to read complex machining and mechanical drawings.
• Knowledge of tooling, speeds, feeds, offsets and workholding.
• Proficiency with precision measuring instruments.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience using overhead cranes to handle large workpieces.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Strong commitment to safety, accuracy and quality.
**Preferred Experience:
**
• FANUC CNC controls
• Horizontal boring mills
• Vertical turning lathes
• Large vertical mills
• Rotary tables and automatic tool changers
• Heavy steel fabrication or job-shop machining
• Low-volume, high-mix manufacturing
