Job Details

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Set up and operate CNC milling equipment to machine steel plate, blocks, and related workpieces to drawing specifications.
• Read blueprints and work orders to identify dimensions, datums, tolerances, surface finishes, and machining requirements.
• Select and install cutting tools, establish work coordinates, and set tool and work offsets.
• Position, align, and secure workpieces using appropriate fixtures, clamps, and supports.
• Perform roughing and finishing operations, adjusting speeds, feeds, and cutting depths for material conditions and tooling performance.
• Verify programs and prove out setups before running parts; make authorized edits and offset adjustments as needed.
• Inspect first-piece and in-process work using micrometers, calipers, indicators, and other appropriate measuring equipment.
• Troubleshoot chatter, tool wear, dimensional variation, and workholding issues to reduce scrap and rework.
• Document inspection results, communicate job status, and perform routine machine care.
• Follow established material-handling and lifting procedures when moving heavy workpieces.

Needed

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; machining apprenticeship or technical training is a plus.
• Minimum 3 years of CNC machining experience, including hands-on milling setup and operation.
• Experience interpreting machining drawings and working to specified dimensional and surface-finish requirements.
• Ability to establish work offsets, adjust tool offsets, and select tooling appropriate for steel machining.
• Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
• Proven ability to complete setups, inspect work, and correct machining problems with limited supervision.
• Experience machining steel plate, blocks, or other large workpieces preferred.
• Horizontal boring mill, planer mill, rotary table, or comparable large-capacity milling experience is a plus.
• CNC program editing and safe heavy-material handling experience preferred.
