Description

The Fountain Group is currently seeking a CNC Machinist for a prominent client of ours. This position is located in Grass Lake, MI 49240. Details for the position are as follows:
 
Job Details:
  • 6 month, open-ended assignment.
  • Pay $20.00-$35.00/HR (4+ years of experience required for higher pay rate eligibility)
  • Hiring on both shifts listed below:
    • 1st Shift (6:00 AM – 2:30 PM. Hours vary; high department workload means heavy mandatory overtime currently.)
      • Will be running Mitsu, and Okuma and YCM
    • 2nd Shift (2:30 PM – 12:30 AM or 3:30 PM – 1:30 AM, Monday – Saturday. Hours may vary; Sundays as needed.)
      • Will be running Nidec, YCM, Mechoff, DMG Mori
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Set up, operate, and monitory vertical and horizontal 3 or 5-axis mills.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining parameters, including speed, feed, depth, and angle of cut.
  • Select, align, and secure work-holding fixtures, angle plates, vices, and other necessary equipment.
  • Verify conformance of finished workpieces to precise engineering specifications.
  • Generate tool paths for 2D milling applications.
  • Accurately complete inspection sheets and required documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with other shifts during shift hand-offs to ensure smooth production continuity.
 
Core Machinery Used:
  • Nidec or Mec 2 mills. Preferred experience with Parpas, Mitsubishi, Mechoff, Pratt, YCM, or Okuma mills.
 
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Proven ability to operate 3 and 5-axis vertical and horizontal milling equipment, with a mandatory background in large mill operations is required.
  • Strong ability to interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), blueprints, technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of G-codes, ability to program at the controller, and experience with Fanuc or Heidenheim controllers.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Programming via SMIRT (rather than at the controller); experience with die components (hoods, doors, fenders) or large defense fabrication machining.
 
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in manufacturing technology or engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience working within a large automotive tooling background.
  • Certified Journeyman CNC Machinist OR minimum of 5 years of experience in the trade.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, CAD/CAM files, and using ERP systems.
 
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: 
  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8-10 hours daily, overtime/weekend support as needed.
  • Position is set in a manufacturing floor environment; requires standing for long periods, lifting up to 50lbs, and wearing PPE.
