    Description

    As a CNC Technology Specialist, you will own the machining processes regarding On Time, On Cost, and On Quality. This would include fixturing, tooling, set-ups, and programming strategies across our lathe and mill operations. This role is central to how our machine shop performs - from building fixtures and driving tooling strategy to tackling complex programming for new product introductions and supervising our CNC programmer on day-to-day work. The role also owns tooling and machining consumables cost control, balancing performance with cost efficiency across the shop.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Own CNC machining processes to achieve On Time, On Cost, and On Quality objectives.
    • Design, build, and improve production fixturing to support new and existing manufacturing processes.
    • Develop and manage tooling strategies, optimizing tool life, machining performance, and consumable costs.
    • Set up, prove out, and optimize CNC lathes and mills to maximize efficiency, repeatability, and quality.
    • Develop, troubleshoot, and optimize CNC programs, with primary responsibility for new product introductions and oversight of day-to-day programming activities performed by the CNC Programmer.
    • Provide direct supervision, technical leadership, coaching, and performance management for the CNC Programmer.
    • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, setup, and programming issues to improve quality, reduce downtime, and minimize cycle times.
    • Support the implementation, programming, and optimization of automated CNC equipment, robotics, and related technologies.
    • Partner with Engineering, Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Purchasing to improve machining processes and support new product development.
    • Maintain standardized documentation for CNC programs, setups, fixturing, tooling, machining standards, and consumable usage.
    • Lead the evaluation, justification, procurement, testing, and implementation of new machining equipment, tooling, and manufacturing technologies.
    • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, machining standards, and established operating procedures.
    • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives that increase productivity, reduce costs, improve quality, and enhance machining capabilities

    Required PPE

    • Safety glasses are always required while in all company production facilities. In designated areas, foam-lined safety glasses are required.
    • Steel-toed boots with accompanying or built-in metatarsal guards are required. Kevlar cut-resistant gloves and sleeves are required when using an open blade.
    • Any additional PPE required by the task, department, or company policy

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    • This position has supervisory responsibilities over a CNC programmer(s).

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

    • Full Time Non-Exempt
    • Monday through Friday
    • Weekends, as needed.
    • Required to work on site 100% of the time.

    Travel

    • Limited travel across the United States.

    Work Environment

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office and manufacturing environment.
    • Percentage of Office - 40%
    • Percentage of Travel - 5%
    • Percentage of Manufacturing and Distribution - 55%

    Physical Demands

    Required Education and Experience:

    • Associate degree or higher in Machine Tool Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field and a minimum of five (5) years of CNC machining experience.
    • Completion of a recognized machinist apprenticeship or Journeyman Machinist certification and a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible

    CNC machining experience.

    • A minimum of ten (10) years of demonstrated hands-on experience in CNC machining, including CNC programming, setup, tooling, fixturing, and process optimization in a manufacturing environment.

    Competencies/Skills

    • Advanced knowledge of CNC machining, including lathes and machining centers.
    • Proficiency in CNC programming, setup, and process optimization.
    • Strong understanding of tooling, fixturing, workholding, and machining strategies.
    • Experience with CAM software; CAD experience preferred.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and technical drawings.
    • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Knowledge of quality standards, inspection methods, and precision machining.
    • Experience with CNC automation and robotic systems preferred.
    • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
    • Effective organizational, project management, and continuous improvement skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing software systems.
    • Commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
