What your day looks like
You start the morning reviewing a customer’s CNC installation plan, walking the floor to confirm utilities, clearances, and rigging paths. By midday, you’re aligning a new machine tool to manufacturer specifications, validating motion and safety circuits, and demonstrating operation to the on-site team. In the afternoon, you diagnose a spindle vibration, consult engineering on an unusual control fault, and close the day by updating the project manager and customer on status, next steps, and parts needs.
Impact you’ll make
- Install and commission CNC machine tools precisely to OEM specs, then verify performance through live operation.
- Read and apply blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and manuals to plan and execute installations and repairs.
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues; tune and troubleshoot systems for stable, in-tolerance operation.
- Interpret maintenance documentation and use standard meters, test equipment, and hand tools to repair and validate systems.
- Partner with engineering to resolve atypical faults or system behaviors.
- Inspect assemblies and all moving parts to ensure proper installation and operation within expected tolerances.
- Coordinate daily with internal/external project managers, supervisors, and customers to communicate progress and timelines.
- Scope required tools, test gear, and parts for each assignment; assemble, align, and install equipment as needed.
- Perform routine service and help customers establish proactive preventive maintenance schedules.
- Use precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.) to confirm setups and component fit.
- Immediately report any accidents, near-misses, or errors; perform other related duties as assigned.
What you bring
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED/HSEC) and proven experience as a CNC machine technician.
- Comfort with shop math, including fractions, ratios, percentages, and proportional reasoning.
- Computer proficiency with email, record keeping, databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics; strong Microsoft Office skills.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to travel 15–20% with periodic overnight trips, including stretches of 1–2 weeks when needed.
- Hands-on experience with FANUC CNC controls is required.

Working conditions and physical requirements
- Approximately 20% of time stationary while operating machines; constant operation of powered equipment and frequent movement across the shop to gather tools, parts, and materials.
- Regularly position yourself to access components above and beneath machines; extensive fine and gross motor work.
- Communicate clearly with team members; visually detect mechanical issues and part defects at short range to determine corrective actions.
- Routinely lift, push, pull, and move up to 50 lbs; carry and load various parts and tools.
- Occasional exposure to humidity, moving machinery, airborne particles, and caustic/toxic substances; moderate noise with periods of loud equipment.
- PPE required around machinery and electrical systems; during warmer months, PPE may increase heat exposure.
