Description

CNC Machine Tool Field Service Engineer (Defense & Industrial)

Picture this: It’s early morning at Nellis Air Force Base. You badge in, review the maintenance log, and begin a precision calibration on a 5-axis VMC before the first training sortie. By mid-afternoon, you’re across town supporting a commercial shop, diagnosing a spindle vibration with a Renishaw QC-20 Ballbar. Day wrapped, notes logged, you’re prepped for tomorrow’s preventive maintenance route. If that rhythm excites you, you’ll thrive at VetPowered.

What You’ll Do

  • Execute scheduled preventive maintenance on CNC and industrial equipment at customer sites—military, government, and commercial—prioritizing uptime and reliability.
  • Respond rapidly to emergency and unscheduled calls within contracted timelines; triage, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults on-site.
  • Install and commission CNC machines per OEM specifications; verify performance through testing and calibration.
  • Repair a wide range of equipment: shears, press brakes, ironworkers, saws, CNC mills and lathes, plasma tables, lasers, waterjets, and more.
  • Support rigging, transport, and setup as jobs require.

Documentation & Customer Care

  • Maintain exacting service records, capturing maintenance histories, adjustments, mods, and configurations.
  • Complete government contract paperwork precisely, including sign-in, escort, and service reporting requirements.
  • Communicate scope, findings, and next steps clearly; prepare quotes and coordinate materials to complete work.

Safety & Teaming

  • Follow all safety procedures and identify potential risks tied to machine operations and site conditions.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and operations teams to improve machine performance.
  • Partner with senior technicians and local support on two-person assignments.

Compliance and Access

Government Installation Support: You will directly support contracts at military bases, including Nellis AFB (Las Vegas, NV). Expect monthly PM trips (typically overnight), 12-hour response for emergencies, 48-hour response for unscheduled calls, and participation in an on-call rotation covering nights, weekends, and holidays. When you’re the only available tech, you’ll accept emergency assignments regardless of the normal rotation.

Base entry requirements apply. See access details below.

Base and facility access:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain access to military installations and other government facilities, including background screening required by the installation
  • Must follow installation sign-in, escort, badging, and security procedures
  • Must be able to work under the escort and scheduling constraints that apply on a secured site

Travel

  • Frequent travel is central to this role: regular overnight trips, monthly travel to Nellis AFB, plus visits to other bases, government facilities, and commercial sites across CA, NV, and AZ.
  • Short-notice travel for emergencies, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Drive a company vehicle to customer locations with occasional air travel when needed.
  • Travel, lodging, and related expenses covered per company policy; valid driver license and insurable driving record required.
