CNA-I Adjunct Instructor

SUMMARY STATEMENT

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Adjunct Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction in an approved Nursing Assistant Training Program at the community college. The instructor prepares students to meet Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON) requirements for Certified Nursing Assistant certification by delivering instruction consistent with the Maryland Board of Nursing approved curriculum, evaluating student achievement, and promoting safe, ethical, and competent nursing care practices. The instructor supervises students in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings and contributes to the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of the CNA training program.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

1. Reports directly to the CNA/CMA Program Coordinator and the Allied Health Program Manager

2. Works collaboratively with CNA-I faculty and other nursing faculty and staff

3. Maintains collegial relationships with members of the health services community as a whole

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Deliver classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction in accordance with Maryland Board of Nursing-approved CNA curriculum and community college standards.
• Facilitate student learning using evidence-based instructional methods and adult learning principles.
• Supervise and evaluate student performance in classroom, laboratory, and clinical environments.
• Provide clinical instruction and direct supervision of students in affiliated healthcare facilities while ensuring patient safety and quality care.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, skills performance, clinical evaluations, grades, and required program documentation.
• Participate in program development, review, and evaluation activities to support continuous program improvement and regulatory compliance.
• Ensure instruction addresses required content areas including infection control, safety, communication, legal and ethical considerations, resident care skills, mobility, hygiene, elimination, and data collection.
• Prepare students for successful completion of CNA certification requirements and entry into the healthcare workforce.
• Maintain compliance with applicable college policies, accreditation standards, clinical agency requirements, and Maryland Board of Nursing regulations.
• Serve as a professional role model demonstrating ethical behavior, cultural competence, and patient-centered care.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Possess an unencumbered registered nurse licensed to practice in Maryland; have a minimum of 2 years nursing experience, at least 1 year in caring for the elderly or chronically ill in a long term care environment; and provide proof of completion of a Maryland Board of Nursing Principles of Adult Education, or have a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Excellent organization and management skills; ability to work with instructional technology; knowledge of diagnostic and patient care supplies and equipment, and knowledge of the Internet, Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel; ability to establish good working relationships with staff, students, and the community; ability to organize and prioritize work, makes decisions independently, and attends to details. Ability to demonstrate and teach nursing assistant skills, including transferring, positioning, lifting, and assisting patients. Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform clinical duties for extended periods. Ability to travel to assigned clinical sites and maintain eligibility to meet clinical agency requirements.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Normal classroom environment may need to lift and move equipment. Working in the classroom may require standing for periods of time.
