CNA/Certified Nursing Assistant

Job Summary:

A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a paraprofessional member of the health care team who works directly with patients in a private home or facility setting. In a custodial agency such as Nova Leap Home Health, the CNA is to perform assistive duties, such as personal hygiene, transfers, range-of-motion, and light housekeeping chores, including shopping, cooking, laundry, and light cleaning.

Qualifications:

• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and graduated from a CNA training course.
• Must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience (preferably in the home care setting).
• Must have access to reliable transportation.
• Must meet all requirements needed to maintain a current certification.
• Must be able to read and follow written or verbal instructions, and document care provided.
• Must adhere to all Nova Leap Home Health policies.

Physical Requirements:

• Must display good emotional health; be able to tolerate physically demanding activities such as standing, bending, and stooping.
• Must have sufficient strength to turn, lift, and assist patients with activities of daily living.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist clients in all activities of daily living/hygiene assistance.
• Prepare meals within the patient's diet.
• Assist clients with meals (feeding) as outlined in the plan of care.
• Assist clients with transfers and ambulation as needed.
• Perform light housekeeping chores (general cleaning, dusting, mopping, etc.).
• Meet the safety needs of the client, and use equipment safely and properly.
• Complete medical records accurately and carry out all assignments as requested.
• Notify Supervisor of any acute or pertinent changes in client condition.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding the client's condition and his/her family.
• Follow and use all Universal Precaution protocols.
