The Burlington Area School District is always seeking qualified individuals to help coach & mentor our students in athletics and extra-curricular activities! As a comprehensive K-12 public school system, BASD prides itself on offering district students and residents a diversity of experiences to complement the character and skill they learn in the classroom - from Athletics to Fine Arts to Clubs to Intramurals to Community Education, every BASD student has the opportunity to explore Being a Good Human while developing their skills and abilities in a variety of programs and activities. Openings can include middle and high school coaching positions, advisory roles, or Community Education instructors.

Job Summary:*

Under the direction of the building principal, Athletic Director, or Director of Community Education, our coaches, advisors or instructors are asked to:

  • Uphold the expectations of the program/s, building and district, including compliance with the BASD Emergency Response Plan, and as outlined in the Handbook for the position/s.

  • Engage with students in an appropriate and supportive manner, with a focus on growth & development and fostering positive self-esteem.

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students involved in the program; including serving as indirect supervisor of all student behavior in practice, during meetings, during events or activities, and on district-sponsored transportation, when appropriate.

  • Perform their position within the hours and duties as assigned by either the principal, director or Head Coach; demonstrate timeliness and attendance at all program events and activities.

  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including parents, colleagues, participants and visiting schools/districts or entities.

  • Maintain accurate and complete student records as prescribed by law, District policy and administrative rules.

  • Demonstrate compliance with WIAA coaching requirements and WI Department of Instruction Concussion Protocol (where applicable).

  • Demonstrate sound decision-making and ability.

Position Requirements

  • Specific skill sets, training and experience appropriate for the growth and development of students participating in the given program or activity is desired, but not required.

  • Experience working with youth in a similar setting or program is ideal; preference will be given to candidates who have had previous coaching or mentoring experience.

  • Clean driving record and ability to pass a background check.

  • CPR, AED and First Aid certification, or the ability to earn the certification prior to the start of the season, is required.

  • NOTE: This is a general posting for any available position within the district in the "Coaching" or "Advisory" classification. If there are specialized skillset, training or requirements for a particular position, that role will be posted separately.
