Cloud Platform Engineer

Administer application workloads on Azure SQL Managed Instance, including database deployment, connectivity, SQL Agent jobs, backup and restore coordination, diagnostics, and capacity monitoring. Associate-level certification: Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104), AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate (SAA-C03), or Microsoft Certified Azure Developer Associate (AZ-204).

Key Responsibilities

• Install, deploy, configure, upgrade, patch, and administer Commercial, ETRM, Market Data, and vendor applications across nonproduction, disaster recovery, and production environments.
• Own application-platform readiness, configuration, reliability, performance, supportability, and lifecycle execution on Azure infrastructure supplied by enterprise cloud teams.
• Develop deep product knowledge of application components, services, databases, integrations, dependencies, sizing, and recovery requirements.
• Collaborate with Application Development, Business SMEs, Vendors, Enterprise Cloud Engineering, Platform Engineering, Database, Security, and Service Management teams.

Application Platform Engineering Responsibilities

• Deploy and configure vendor and custom applications on Azure Windows Server VMs, including services, IIS, schedulers, middleware, client components, and environment settings.
• Administer application workloads on Azure SQL Managed Instance, including database deployment, connectivity, SQL Agent jobs, backup and restore coordination, diagnostics, and capacity monitoring.
• Translate vendor architecture and installation requirements into repeatable build, validation, cutover, rollback, and transition plans.
• Tune application performance using operating-system metrics, SQL diagnostics, logs, workload behavior, resource utilization, and vendor guidance.
• Troubleshoot applications, Windows, SQL MI, integrations, certificates, storage, service accounts, connectivity, and configuration.
• Plan application upgrades, patch compatibility, environment refreshes, resilience tests, capacity, and platform optimization.

Automation & DevOps Responsibilities

• Build and maintain GitHub Actions workflows for installation, release orchestration, configuration, database deployment, validation, approvals, and rollback.
• Use Terraform within enterprise-approved patterns to provision application environments and supporting Azure resources.
• Develop PowerShell and other scripts for environment setup, patching, health checks, configuration validation, service management, log collection, and recurring tasks.
• Standardize reusable deployment packages, configuration, secrets references, release controls, and automated tests to reduce manual effort and drift.
• Troubleshoot pipeline, deployment, dependency, artifact, Terraform state, configuration, and release failures.

Required Technical Skills

• Hands-on administration of applications hosted on Azure Windows Server VMs and Azure SQL Managed Instance.
• Strong experience installing, configuring, upgrading, patching, troubleshooting, and supporting vendor or enterprise applications.
• Practical expertise with GitHub Actions, Terraform, PowerShell, Git, CI/CD, release management, and environment provisioning.
• Working knowledge of Windows services, IIS, scheduled tasks, certificates, service accounts, SQL diagnostics, backup and restore, and application connectivity.
• Demonstrated performance tuning, capacity planning, monitoring, root cause analysis, reliability improvement, technical documentation, and cross-team collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with energy trading, ETRM/CTRM, Market Data, risk, scheduling, logistics, settlement, or pricing platforms.
• Experience with RightAngle, TriplePoint, PlanLogic, Endur, ZEMA, or comparable vendor applications.
• Knowledge of Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, Splunk, REST APIs, middleware, messaging, integrations, .NET, Python, Bash, or enterprise schedulers.
• Familiarity with ITIL, change governance, SOX controls, audit readiness, disaster recovery, and regulated environments.
• Relevant Azure, GitHub, Terraform, or SQL certifications.
• Associate-level certification: Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104), AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate (SAA-C03), or Microsoft Certified Azure Developer Associate (AZ-204). GitHub Foundations is recommended.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or a related field; equivalent practical experience considered.
• 5+ years in application platform engineering, DevOps, application operations, site reliability, or related technical delivery.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience supporting Azure-hosted Windows and SQL-based business applications.
• Demonstrated delivery of application deployments, vendor upgrades, automation, operational readiness, and platform improvements.
