Employment Type: T4 Contract (12 + Months)

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (4 Days Onsite)

Location: Ottawa, ON

Compensation: $57 - $60/hr

Job Description

We are seeking a Software Developer to support the design, development, testing, and deployment of the Telemetry Observability Platform (TOP).

TOP is an enterprise platform that integrates vehicle telemetry, diagnostic information, engineering artifacts, manufacturing evidence, service data, and software lifecycle signals to provide actionable diagnostic and software health insights.

This individual will work within a cross-functional Agile team to build cloud-native services, data integrations, observability capabilities, APIs, and user-facing applications. The ideal candidate will have experience developing enterprise software solutions utilizing cloud platforms, REST APIs, containerization technologies, and modern software engineering best practices.

This role offers exposure to cutting-edge technologies including cloud-native architectures, observability platforms, AI integrations, vehicle diagnostics, and connected vehicle ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain TOP platform components under the guidance of senior engineers and architects.
• Build and integrate REST APIs, backend services, data-processing functions, and event-driven workflows.
• Develop integrations with vehicle, manufacturing, engineering, service, and software-factory data sources.
• Support ingestion, normalization, validation, storage, and retrieval of telemetry and diagnostic data.
• Contribute to web-based dashboards and user interfaces that present operational, diagnostic, AI-performance, and platform-health insights.
• Implement platform observability through logging, metrics, distributed tracing, health checks, dashboards, and alerting.
• Develop and execute unit, integration, API, and automated regression testing.
• Participate in peer code reviews and implement feedback related to maintainability, performance, security, and coding standards.
• Support CI/CD pipelines, containerized deployments, cloud infrastructure, and environment troubleshooting.
• Assist with integrating AI services through governed APIs and standardized interfaces.
• Implement role-based access controls and follow enterprise security, privacy, auditability, and data retention requirements.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, API specifications, deployment instructions, and design documentation.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, estimation, demos, and retrospectives.
• Investigate production issues using logs, metrics, traces, and platform monitoring tools.
• Identify and communicate technical risks, dependencies, and blockers to the delivery team.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).

• Approximately 2-5 years of software development experience.

• Experience with one or more programming languages:

• Java

• JavaScript

• Python

• TypeScript

• Experience developing and consuming REST APIs.

• Experience working with JSON and structured data formats.

• Understanding of object-oriented programming and software design principles.

• Experience with relational databases, SQL, and data modeling.

• Experience using Git-based source control (GitHub preferred).

• Experience participating in code reviews.

• Familiarity with automated testing practices.

• Understanding of cloud computing concepts and CI/CD pipelines.

• Experience troubleshooting applications using logs and debugging tools.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

• Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments.

• Familiarity with OpenTelemetry.

• Experience with OpenAPI and Swagger.

• Understanding of authentication, authorization, RBAC, and secure coding practices.

• Experience integrating AI or Machine Learning services through APIs.

• Knowledge of:

• Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG)

• Vector databases/vectorization

• LLM orchestration

• RAGAS evaluation frameworks

• Agentic AI workflows

• Basic machine learning and MLOps understanding.

• Experience with C development.

• Experience translating product requirements into software requirements and breaking requirements into epics and user stories.

• Experience with telemetry, vehicle diagnostics, manufacturing systems, engineering lifecycle platforms, or connected vehicle data environments.

• Familiarity with automotive diagnostic concepts such as:

• DTCs

• CAN

• UDS

• DoIP
