- Build and deploy Docker container images and run supported applications on Google Cloud services, including Cloud Run.
- Help data team members deploy and maintain Streamlit applications, including troubleshooting deployment issues and providing light Python debugging support.
- Support Google Cloud sandbox environments used by the team; investigate common issues and coordinate with cloud support teams when needed.
- Manage and troubleshoot permissions exceptions and service-account access for Google Cloud and Ford Cloud Portal (FCP) resources, following applicable security and governance processes.
- Help users determine the appropriate account or service identity for a resource and investigate cases where the required service account or permission is unavailable.
- Coordinate with Global Data and Intelligence (GDIA) data stewards and other data owners to submit, track, and resolve data-access requests on behalf of team members.
- Perform data-stewardship activities for assets created or maintained by the team, including helping ensure that ownership, access, and supporting information are handled appropriately.
- Help prepare team web applications for the team's internal web platform, including packaging, deployment, and basic troubleshooting.
- Support the team website and related applications, including resolving issues that affect usability or routine operation.
- Assist with data and content workflows for team communication tools, including troubleshooting image or other asset uploads to BigQuery-backed services where applicable.
- Document recurring procedures, known issues, and deployment or access guidance so that common tasks can be completed consistently.
- Work with GDIA, FCP, and relevant IT organizations to route requests, clarify requirements, and resolve issues that are outside the team's direct control.
Ford is seeking a hands-on engineer to help its members access data and use the cloud-based tools and internal applications that support their work. This role bridges data, cloud infrastructure, and user support: it helps manage data-access workflows, maintain development environments, deploy internal applications, and coordinate with the teams responsible for Ford's data and cloud platforms. The role primarily supports internally facing development tools and analysis environments rather than externally facing production systems. It also supports the team's internal website and web applications, which may serve users outside the immediate data team. Success requires practical technical problem-solving, clear communication, careful handling of access and governance processes, and the ability to help colleagues move from a working prototype to a usable, supported application.
What success looks like:
- Team members can get access and get unblocked: data requests and cloud-access issues are routed, tracked, and resolved through clear, dependable processes.
- Development environments are dependable: team sandboxes and analysis tools are maintained, and recurring problems are documented and addressed efficiently.
- Applications are easier to deploy and support: team members receive practical help packaging and deploying internal applications, with common steps made repeatable.
- Access is handled responsibly: service accounts, permissions, and data-stewardship activities follow the appropriate security and governance expectations.
- Cross-team work is effective: requests involving GDIA, FCP, or IT partners are communicated clearly and followed through to resolution.
- Support becomes more sustainable: recurring fixes and operational knowledge are captured, reducing avoidable one-off troubleshooting.
