    About the Position

    The Adult Correctional Services Unit is seeking a dedicated Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) to support individuals with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders within the Virginia Beach Correctional Center. This role focuses on service coordination, advocacy, discharge planning, and community reintegration for court-diverted individuals and incarcerated adults.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assist with planning, developing, implementing, and scheduling direct services within Adult Correctional Services.

    • Provide advocacy, monitoring, and discharge planning for clients with serious mental illness/substance use disorders at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center.

    • Assist with discharge planning for court-diverted individuals.

    • Provide face-to-face contact with individuals in the jail as needed.

    • Coordinate with jail staff and medical providers to ensure court-diverted individuals receive prescribed medications.

    • Attend and assist with court proceedings as needed.

    • Accompany individuals to appointments on the day of release and when necessary to support successful community integration.

    • Assist clients in obtaining identification documents and benefits.

    • Collaborate with Probation & Parole and Community Corrections to promote compliance with court orders and probation requirements.

    • Monitor client progress and compliance with diversion plans.

    • Maintain daily service logs in Cerner.

    • Meet regularly with supervisor to report program progress and problem-solve challenges.

    • Support the program supervisor with administrative functions for the Adult Correctional Services Unit.

    • Provide informal progress updates to referral sources.

    • Notify supervisor of difficult or high-risk cases.

    • Ensure participant confidentiality in accordance with federal regulations, HIPAA, and Corporate Compliance standards.

    • Maintain active registration with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a QMHP.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Behavioral Health Positions Require:

    • A bachelor’s degree in a human services field (e.g., psychology, behavioral or mental health, special education, social work) and three (3) years of relevant experience

    OR

    • A combination of education (beyond high school), experience, and training equivalent to seven (7) years in human-services-related fields.

    Additional Requirements:

    • Must be registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP).

    • Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid driver’s license.
