Position Summary
The NC TraCS Institute seeks a Clinical Support Technician (CST) to support clinical research activities within the Clinical and Translational Research Center (CTRC), the largest clinical research support unit serving the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The CTRC provides outpatient research services for a diverse portfolio of clinical trials involving adult and pediatric participants, healthy volunteers, and investigators from the School of Medicine as well as other schools and disciplines across the University.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide clinical, administrative, and operational support for research participants and study teams in an ambulatory research setting. The CST delivers patient care services to research participants while ensuring adherence to research protocols, regulatory requirements, and CTRC standards for safety, quality, and participant-centered care.
Responsibilities include performing clinical procedures such as obtaining and documenting vital signs, height and weight measurements, point-of-care testing, electrocardiograms (ECGs), specimen collection, processing and handling, and assisting with participant care activities as directed by licensed providers and nursing staff. The CST also supports front office operations, including participant scheduling, reception, visitor assistance, telephone management, and administrative coordination.
In addition, the CST maintains unit readiness through inventory management, supply ordering and restocking, equipment monitoring, workspace preparation and maintenance, and support for onboarding and orientation activities. The position plays a vital role in ensuring efficient study operations, high-quality research data collection, and an exceptional experience for research participants.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require registration as a Nurse Aide by the North Carolina Board of Nursing or certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA.)
